Portable power stations keep a fridge, router and lights running through an outage, and increasingly report state of charge and load to an app.
Two numbers decide whether one suits you. Capacity in watt-hours sets how long it runs; continuous output in watts sets what it can run at all. A fridge that draws 150W continuously needs a much larger surge headroom for its compressor start, so check surge rating separately from continuous.
Battery chemistry matters more than capacity for long-term value. LiFePO4 cells typically last 3,000 or more cycles against roughly 500 for older lithium-ion, which over a decade is the difference between one purchase and three. Nearly all current models worth buying use LiFePO4.
If you plan to run one during a power cut rather than while camping, check the pass-through and switchover time. Units with true UPS-grade switchover keep a router or NAS running without a reboot; most do not.
