Hub Offline Issues

1. Check Network

  • Verify Ethernet cable is connected
  • Check router port is working
  • Confirm router has internet access
  • Try different Ethernet cable

2. Power Cycle

  1. Unplug hub from power
  2. Wait 60 seconds
  3. Reconnect power
  4. Wait 5 minutes for hub to fully boot

3. Router Issues

  • Restart router and hub
  • Check firewall isn't blocking SmartThings
  • Ensure hub can reach Samsung cloud servers

Zigbee Device Issues

Pairing New Zigbee Device

  1. Open SmartThings app
  2. Tap + > Add device > Scan nearby
  3. Factory reset the Zigbee device
  4. Put device in pairing mode
  5. Wait for discovery (may take 30-60 seconds)

Zigbee Devices Offline

  • Check device battery if applicable
  • Verify device is within Zigbee range
  • Add Zigbee repeaters (smart plugs) to extend mesh
  • Remove and re-add stubborn devices

Z-Wave Device Issues

Pairing New Z-Wave Device

  1. In SmartThings app, tap + > Add device
  2. Select device brand or "Scan nearby"
  3. Put Z-Wave device in inclusion mode (usually triple-click)
  4. Hub will discover and add device

Z-Wave Network Repair

If Z-Wave devices are unreliable:

  1. Go to SmartThings app > Hub > ... menu
  2. Select Z-Wave Utilities > Repair Z-Wave Network
  3. Wait for repair to complete (can take 15+ minutes)
  4. Don't interrupt the repair process

Excluding Z-Wave Devices

Before re-adding problematic devices:

  1. Go to Z-Wave Utilities > Exclude Device
  2. Put device in exclusion mode (same as inclusion typically)
  3. Device will be removed from hub and network

Matter Support

Adding Matter Devices

  1. Ensure hub firmware is up to date
  2. In SmartThings app, tap + > Add device
  3. Scan Matter QR code on device
  4. Follow pairing prompts

Matter Issues

  • Hub must have latest firmware for Matter
  • Some older hub versions don't support Matter
  • Check SmartThings documentation for compatibility

Automations Not Running

Check Automation

  1. Open Automations in SmartThings app
  2. Verify automation is enabled (not paused)
  3. Check trigger conditions are correct
  4. Verify actions are properly configured

Location/Mode Issues

  • Check location mode isn't restricting automation
  • Verify all devices in automation are online
  • Try disabling and re-enabling automation

Factory Reset Hub

As last resort:

  1. Remove all devices from hub first (important!)
  2. In SmartThings app, remove hub from location
  3. Press reset button on hub for 10+ seconds
  4. LED will indicate reset
  5. Set up as new hub
  6. Re-add all devices (they need re-pairing)

Firmware Updates

  • Updates install automatically
  • Don't unplug during update (yellow LED)
  • Check version in SmartThings > Hub > Information
