If your Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 is triggering false presence detection, zones aren't working correctly, or the sensor won't connect to HomeKit, this guide will help you resolve these issues.

False Presence Detection

When the sensor detects presence when no one is there:

  • Check for moving objects in the detection area (fans, curtains, pets)
  • Reduce sensitivity settings in the Aqara app
  • Ensure the sensor isn't pointed at windows where outside movement might be detected
  • Check for reflective surfaces that might cause false readings
  • Verify the sensor firmware is up to date
  • Try repositioning the sensor to avoid problem areas

Presence Zones Not Working Correctly

When zone-based automation isn't triggering properly:

  • Recalibrate the room layout in the Aqara app
  • Ensure zones don't overlap in confusing ways
  • Make zone boundaries clear with sufficient margins
  • Check that the sensor has a clear line of sight to all zones
  • Adjust zone sensitivity individually if some are more problematic
  • Test each zone manually by walking through them

Sensor Not Detecting Presence

When the FP2 fails to detect people in the room:

  • Verify the sensor is powered on and connected
  • Check if detection is enabled in the app settings
  • Increase sensitivity if set too low
  • Ensure the sensor height is correct (recommended 1.2-1.5m)
  • Check that nothing is blocking the sensor's view
  • Clean the sensor surface if dirty

HomeKit Integration Issues

When the FP2 doesn't work properly with Apple HomeKit:

  • Ensure the sensor is first set up in the Aqara Home app
  • Check that HomeKit exposure is enabled in device settings
  • Verify your Apple Home Hub is online
  • Each zone appears as a separate occupancy sensor in HomeKit
  • Try removing and re-adding the sensor to HomeKit
  • Reset HomeKit pairing from the Aqara app if needed

Fall Detection Not Triggering

If the fall detection feature isn't working:

  • Verify fall detection is enabled in the app settings
  • Check that the sensor has clear view of the monitored area
  • Ensure the sensor is mounted at the correct height for fall detection
  • Fall detection works best in smaller, defined areas
  • Test with simulated falls (carefully) to verify functionality
  • Update firmware as fall detection is improved in updates

WiFi Connection Problems

If the sensor keeps disconnecting:

  • Check WiFi signal strength at the sensor location
  • The FP2 only supports 2.4GHz WiFi networks
  • Move your router closer or add a WiFi extender
  • Restart your router and the sensor
  • Check for interference from other 2.4GHz devices
  • Verify your WiFi network is stable

Room Calibration Issues

When room layout calibration fails or is inaccurate:

  • Ensure the room is empty of people during calibration
  • Keep still objects in their normal positions during setup
  • Recalibrate if you move furniture significantly
  • Allow 2-3 minutes for calibration to complete
  • Try calibrating during different times of day
  • Factory reset and recalibrate if persistent issues

Light Sensor Readings Inaccurate

If the built-in light sensor shows wrong values:

  • Check that nothing is blocking the light sensor area
  • The light sensor measures ambient light, not direct light
  • Readings may vary based on sensor positioning
  • Clean the sensor surface if dirty
  • Use the light readings as relative values rather than absolute lux

Factory Reset the FP2

For persistent issues:

  • Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds
  • Wait for the indicator light to flash rapidly
  • Remove the sensor from the Aqara app and HomeKit
  • Set up the sensor again as a new device
  • Recalibrate the room and recreate all zones
  • Reconfigure automation rules in your smart home app
