If your Aqara Smart Lock U100 or U200 won't unlock, isn't responding to fingerprints, or having issues with HomeKit or Matter, this guide covers the most common problems and solutions.
Lock Not Responding to Fingerprints
When fingerprint unlock isn't working:
- Clean the fingerprint sensor with a dry, soft cloth
- Ensure your finger is clean and dry when scanning
- Re-enroll your fingerprint - delete and add it again
- Try enrolling the same finger multiple times at different angles
- Check if the fingerprint sensor is damaged or scratched
- Verify fingerprint unlock is enabled in the app settings
Lock Won't Pair with HomeKit
For HomeKit pairing issues with the U100:
- Ensure you're within Bluetooth range during pairing
- Check that your iPhone has Bluetooth enabled
- Verify your Apple Home Hub is online and working
- Reset the HomeKit pairing on the lock and try again
- Remove the lock from HomeKit and re-add it
- Update the lock firmware through the Aqara app first
Matter Pairing Problems (U200)
For Matter pairing issues with the U200:
- Ensure your smart home platform supports Matter locks
- Use the QR code on the lock or in the manual for pairing
- Check that your Matter controller (border router) is online
- Verify Thread network is available if using Thread connection
- Reset the lock and attempt pairing again
- Try pairing through a different Matter controller if available
Lock Won't Lock or Unlock Remotely
When remote control doesn't work:
- Check if the lock is connected to an Aqara Hub for remote access
- The U100 requires a hub for remote control outside Bluetooth range
- Verify your hub is online and connected to WiFi
- Check your internet connection
- For HomeKit, ensure your Apple Home Hub is working
- Restart the Aqara app and try again
Battery Draining Quickly
If batteries are dying faster than expected:
- Check if the lock is having trouble latching (motor strain)
- Ensure the door is properly aligned - misalignment causes battery drain
- Reduce the frequency of remote status checks
- Use lithium batteries for better performance in extreme temperatures
- Check for firmware updates that may improve battery efficiency
- Average battery life should be 8-12 months with normal use
Lock Making Grinding or Clicking Noises
Unusual sounds during operation:
- Check door alignment - the lock may be struggling to extend the bolt
- Lubricate the bolt and strike plate with graphite lubricant
- Verify the strike plate is positioned correctly
- Ensure the door isn't warped or swollen from humidity
- Check if the lock is binding during manual operation
- Recalibrate the lock through the app if available
Passcode or NFC Not Working
When numeric codes or NFC cards fail:
- Verify the passcode is entered correctly
- Check if the passcode has expired (for temporary codes)
- Re-add the NFC card in the app
- Ensure you're holding the NFC card in the right position
- Check if the keypad is responding to touches at all
- Clean the keypad surface if it's not registering presses
Auto-Lock Not Working
If the lock doesn't automatically lock:
- Verify auto-lock is enabled in the app settings
- Check the auto-lock delay time setting
- Ensure the door sensor (if equipped) detects the door as closed
- Test manual locking to confirm the motor works
- Recalibrate the lock if auto-lock is inconsistent
Factory Reset the Aqara Lock
For persistent issues:
- Open the battery cover on the interior side
- Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds
- Wait for the lock to beep and flash indicating reset
- Remove the lock from all apps (Aqara, HomeKit, etc.)
- Re-enroll all fingerprints and passcodes after setup
