If your Aqara Video Doorbell G4 isn't showing up in HomeKit, not recording video, or having connectivity problems, this guide will help you troubleshoot and resolve these issues.

Doorbell Not Appearing in Apple HomeKit

When the G4 won't add to or show up in HomeKit:

  • Ensure the doorbell is first set up in the Aqara Home app
  • Check that the firmware is updated to the latest version
  • Verify your Apple Home Hub (Apple TV, HomePod, or iPad) is online
  • Try removing and re-adding the doorbell to HomeKit
  • Reset the HomeKit pairing in Aqara Home app settings
  • Make sure your iCloud account is properly signed in

Chime Not Sounding When Doorbell Pressed

If pressing the doorbell doesn't trigger your chime:

  • Check if you have a compatible mechanical or electronic chime
  • Verify the transformer provides 8-24V AC power
  • Ensure all wiring connections are secure
  • Test the chime independently to confirm it works
  • Configure the chime type correctly in the Aqara app

Video Recording or Live View Not Working

When you can't view live video or recordings aren't saving:

  • Check that you have an SD card installed and formatted correctly
  • Verify the SD card has available storage space
  • Ensure recording settings are enabled in the Aqara app
  • For HomeKit Secure Video, check your iCloud storage plan
  • Test your WiFi connection speed - video requires good bandwidth
  • Restart the doorbell by power cycling it

Motion Detection Not Triggering

If the doorbell isn't detecting motion or people:

  • Verify motion detection is enabled in the app settings
  • Adjust motion sensitivity - it may be set too low
  • Configure detection zones to cover the right areas
  • Clean the camera lens if dirty or obstructed
  • Check if motion alerts are enabled for notifications
  • Ensure the doorbell angle covers the approach area

Poor Video Quality or Night Vision Problems

For blurry video or night vision issues:

  • Clean the camera lens with a soft, dry cloth
  • Check your WiFi signal strength - weak signal affects quality
  • Ensure night vision IR lights aren't being blocked
  • Remove any protective film that may still be on the lens
  • Check video quality settings in the app
  • Avoid pointing the camera at reflective surfaces that cause IR glare

WiFi Connection Problems

If the doorbell keeps disconnecting:

  • Check WiFi signal strength at the doorbell location
  • The G4 supports only 2.4GHz WiFi networks
  • Move your router closer or add a WiFi extender
  • Ensure your WiFi password doesn't have special characters that might cause issues
  • Restart your router and the doorbell
  • Check for interference from other wireless devices

Two-Way Audio Not Working

When you can't talk through the doorbell:

  • Check that microphone permissions are granted to the Aqara/Home app
  • Verify the speaker and microphone on your phone work properly
  • Test with both the Aqara app and Apple Home app
  • Ensure you're tapping the microphone button during live view
  • Check if the doorbell speaker volume is turned down
  • Restart the app and try again

Factory Reset the Aqara G4

For persistent issues:

  • Press and hold the reset button on the doorbell for 10 seconds
  • Wait for the LED indicator to flash rapidly
  • Remove the doorbell from the Aqara app and HomeKit
  • Set up the doorbell again as a new device
