Brilliant Smart Home Control panels come in 2, 3, and 4-switch configurations, replacing traditional switches with touchscreen control. This guide covers multi-switch specific issues beyond the 1-switch panel.
Multi-Switch Wiring Issues
Symptoms
- Only some switches work
- Lights flicker or behave erratically
- Panel doesn't power on
Solutions
- Neutral wire required - Multi-switch Brilliant requires a neutral wire (white) in the junction box.
- Map load wires - Identify which load wire controls which light by testing with wire nuts.
- Correct wire gauge - Use 14 AWG or 12 AWG wire as required by your electrical code.
- Total load capacity - Verify total wattage doesn't exceed panel rating (typically 450W combined).
- Professional install - Multi-gang replacement is complex. Consider hiring an electrician.
Individual Sliders Not Controlling Lights
Symptoms
- One slider controls wrong light
- Slider moves but light doesn't respond
- Dimming not working on one circuit
Solutions
- Assign loads - In Brilliant app, go to Control > Switches and assign each slider to its correct load.
- Swap wire positions - If sliders are reversed, swap the physical load wire positions.
- Check bulb compatibility - Some LEDs don't dim properly. Use dimmable LED bulbs or set to on/off mode.
- Calibrate dimmers - Run dimmer calibration in settings for each switch.
3-Way/4-Way Switch Configuration
Symptoms
- Light controlled from multiple locations doesn't work
- Companion switch not responding
- Unexpected behavior from other switches
Solutions
- Brilliant Auxiliary - Use Brilliant Auxiliary Switch at companion locations, not standard switches.
- Identify line/load box - Brilliant main unit goes where line (power) is present.
- Traveler wires - Connect traveler wires correctly between Brilliant and Auxiliary switches.
- Consult wiring diagrams - Brilliant app has specific diagrams for multi-way configurations.
Smart Home Device Control
Symptoms
- Sonos/Hue not discovered
- Devices show but can't control
- Integration frequently disconnects
Solutions
- Same network - Brilliant panel and smart devices must be on the same network subnet.
- Add integrations - In Brilliant app, go to Integrations and connect each smart home platform.
- Re-authorize - OAuth tokens expire. Re-link integrations if control stops working.
- Update firmware - Keep all panels on latest firmware for best compatibility.
Multi-Panel Sync Issues
Symptoms
- Panels show different device states
- Scene controls inconsistent
- One panel works, others don't
Solutions
- Same Brilliant account - All panels must be registered to the same Brilliant account.
- Network connection - Verify each panel has strong WiFi connection.
- Sync settings - Changes made on one panel should sync to others within seconds.
- Restart panels - Restart each panel to force a fresh sync with cloud.
