Brilliant Smart Home Control panels replace standard light switches with touchscreen displays for controlling smart home devices. This guide covers common issues with 2, 3, and 4-switch panels.

Common Symptoms

  • Touchscreen unresponsive or frozen
  • Lights not turning on/off
  • Voice control not working
  • Panel showing offline
  • Motion detection issues
  • Intercom not connecting

Display Issues

Screen Frozen/Unresponsive

  1. Turn off circuit breaker for 30 seconds
  2. Turn back on and wait for panel to boot
  3. Boot process takes 2-3 minutes

Screen Dim or Blank

  • Check brightness settings (swipe down for controls)
  • Verify panel has power (check circuit breaker)
  • Motion sensor may have dimmed screen—wave hand
  • Check screen timeout settings

Touch Not Registering

  • Clean screen with soft, dry cloth
  • Ensure screen isn't wet
  • Reboot panel via circuit breaker

Light Control Issues

Lights Not Responding

  1. Try physical switches on bottom of panel
  2. Check circuit breaker for lights
  3. Verify wiring at panel (professional install recommended)
  4. Ensure dimmer compatibility with LED bulbs

Dimming Issues

  • Verify bulbs are dimmable
  • Set minimum brightness in panel settings
  • Some LED bulbs flicker with dimmers
  • Check bulb wattage doesn't exceed load

WiFi Connectivity

Connecting to WiFi

  1. Swipe down for settings
  2. Tap WiFi settings
  3. Select network and enter password
  4. Wait for connection confirmation

Offline Issues

  • Check WiFi signal strength at panel location
  • Panel requires 2.4GHz or 5GHz network
  • Verify router is working properly
  • Reboot router and panel if needed

Voice Assistant Integration

Alexa Built-In

Brilliant has Alexa built-in:

  • Say "Alexa" to activate
  • Sign into Amazon account in panel settings
  • Ensure microphone isn't muted

Not Responding to Voice

  1. Check microphone isn't muted (swipe down)
  2. Verify Alexa is enabled in settings
  3. Check internet connection
  4. Re-link Amazon account if needed

Smart Home Control

Devices Not Appearing

  1. Open Brilliant app on phone
  2. Go to Devices section
  3. Tap + to add new device/integration
  4. Follow linking steps for each brand

Supported Integrations

  • SmartThings, Wemo, Honeywell
  • Apple HomeKit devices
  • Many others via Brilliant app

Motion Detection

Motion Sensor Settings

  • Configure in panel Settings > Motion
  • Set detection sensitivity
  • Configure screen wake behavior
  • Set up motion-activated lighting

False Triggers

  • Reduce sensitivity if triggering too often
  • Avoid pointing toward windows/reflections
  • Adjust detection zones if available

Intercom Issues

Between Brilliant Panels

  • All panels must be on same WiFi network
  • All must be linked in same Brilliant account
  • Check intercom is enabled in settings

Software Updates

  1. Swipe down and tap Settings
  2. Go to About > Software Update
  3. Install if update available
  4. Keep panel powered during update

Factory Reset

  1. Go to Settings > Device Settings > Factory Reset
  2. Confirm reset
  3. Panel will reboot and require setup
  4. Alternatively, use reset pinhole on panel

When to Contact Support

Contact Brilliant support if:

  • Panel won't power on after circuit breaker reset
  • Physical switches don't work
  • Display has permanent damage
  • Wiring issues (consult electrician first)
