The Eve Smoke is a 10-year smoke and heat detector with HomeKit integration via Thread. This guide covers pairing, alert, and maintenance issues.

Smoke Detector Not Pairing

Symptoms

  • Not found in Home app
  • Thread pairing fails
  • LED not responding

Solutions

  1. Install correctly - Mount on ceiling per instructions with twist-lock base.
  2. Thread border router - Requires HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, or other Thread router.
  3. Wake device - Press test button to wake before pairing.
  4. Use Eve app - Start setup in Eve app for guided instructions.
  5. HomeKit code - Scan code on detector or enter manually.

No Alerts When Tested

Symptoms

  • Test button doesn't trigger alert
  • HomeKit not receiving notifications
  • Silent when alarm should sound

Solutions

  1. Test procedure - Hold test button for 3 seconds. Alarm should sound briefly.
  2. Check notifications - Verify Home app notifications are enabled for smoke detector.
  3. Thread connection - If offline, notifications won't be sent. Check connection status.
  4. Battery life - Has sealed 10-year battery. If not working, detector may need replacement.

False Alarms

Symptoms

  • Alarms without smoke present
  • Triggers from steam or cooking
  • Frequent nuisance alarms

Solutions

  1. Placement - Avoid installing near kitchens, bathrooms, or humid areas.
  2. Clean detector - Dust can cause false alarms. Vacuum vents gently.
  3. Heat vs smoke - Eve Smoke has both detectors. Heat alarm less prone to cooking triggers.
  4. Relocate if needed - Move further from cooking areas if false alarms persist.

HomeKit Status Issues

Symptoms

  • Shows "No Response"
  • Status not updating
  • Offline frequently

Solutions

  1. Thread network - Verify Thread border router is online and within range.
  2. Other Thread devices - More Thread devices improve mesh reliability.
  3. Update firmware - Use Eve app to check for firmware updates.
  4. Battery - If sealed battery fails (should last 10 years), replace entire unit.

Maintenance

Symptoms

  • Monthly test reminder
  • End of life indicator

Solutions

  1. Monthly testing - Press test button monthly to verify alarm functions.
  2. Replace at end of life - Replace entire unit after 10 years (sealed battery design).
  3. Clean regularly - Vacuum around detector annually to prevent dust buildup.
