The Hubitat Elevation C-8 Pro is a local home automation hub supporting Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Matter protocols. This guide covers hub connectivity and device management issues.
Common Symptoms
- Hub not accessible on network
- Devices not responding to commands
- Automation rules not triggering
- Devices failing to pair
- Hub running slowly or freezing
- Zigbee/Z-Wave network instability
Hub Network Access
Cannot Access Web Interface
- Verify hub Ethernet cable is connected
- Check hub LED status (green = normal)
- Access via findmyhub.hubitat.com to locate hub
- Try hub IP address directly if known
Finding Hub IP Address

Device Pairing Issues
Zigbee Device Won't Pair
- Factory reset the device before pairing
- In Hubitat, go to Devices > Add Device > Zigbee
- Put device in pairing mode within 3 minutes
- Keep device close to hub during initial pairing
- Check for existing ghost devices and remove
Z-Wave Device Won't Pair
- Exclude device first (Settings > Z-Wave Details > Exclude)
- Factory reset device following manufacturer steps
- Add device (Devices > Add Device > Z-Wave)
- Trigger device pairing mode (usually triple-click)
- Wait for discovery (can take 30+ seconds)
Matter Device Pairing
- Ensure device is in pairing mode
- Use Devices > Add Device > Matter
- Scan QR code or enter pairing code
- Some Matter devices need initial setup with manufacturer app first
Devices Not Responding
Zigbee Issues
- Check Zigbee channel isn't conflicting with WiFi
- Add more Zigbee repeaters (powered devices like plugs)
- Don't use Zigbee channel that overlaps WiFi 2.4GHz channels
- Rebuild Zigbee mesh if devices frequently drop
Z-Wave Issues
- Run Z-Wave repair (Settings > Z-Wave Details > Repair)
- Check for ghost devices and remove them
- Ensure Z-Wave devices are within range
- Power-cycle problematic devices
Automation Problems
Rules Not Triggering
- Check rule is enabled (not paused)
- Verify trigger conditions are correct
- Look at rule logs for errors
- Test each device individually
- Check for mode restrictions
Delayed Automations
- Hub may be overloaded—check Apps > System Events
- Reduce logging level if excessive
- Simplify complex rules
- Check for stuck or polling devices
Hub Performance
Hub Running Slow
- Reduce number of polling devices
- Disable excessive logging
- Remove unused apps and drivers
- Check hub memory usage in Settings > Hub Information
Hub Freezing
- Power cycle hub (unplug 10 seconds)
- Access hub and check for runaway app/rule
- Use soft reset if accessible (Settings > Reboot Hub)
- Restore from backup if issues persist
Backups and Recovery
Creating Backups
- Go to Settings > Backup and Restore
- Click Download Backup
- Save file to safe location
- Backup regularly, especially before major changes
Restoring Backup
- Go to Settings > Backup and Restore
- Upload backup file
- Select restore options
- Hub will restart with restored settings
Factory Reset (Last Resort)
- Backup current configuration first
- Go to Settings > Perform Soft Reset
- For full reset, hold reset button during power-up
- Re-pair all devices after reset (they need exclusion/removal from old hub)
