If your Ring Floodlight Cam isn't recording motion events, the floodlights won't turn on, or you're experiencing connectivity issues, follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem.
Floodlights Not Turning On Automatically
The most common issue with Ring Floodlight Cams is the lights not activating when motion is detected:
- Check that the light settings are enabled in the Ring app under Device Settings > Light Settings
- Verify the motion zones for lights are configured correctly and cover the area you want
- Ensure the light schedule isn't preventing activation during certain hours
- Check the motion sensitivity slider - if set too low, lights may not trigger
- Test the lights manually using the Ring app to confirm they work
- Clean the motion sensor lens with a soft dry cloth
Camera Not Recording Motion Events
If you're not getting motion recordings or alerts:
- Verify Motion Detection is enabled in Device Settings
- Check that Motion Alerts are turned on in the Ring app
- Review your Motion Zones - make sure they cover the areas you want to monitor
- Adjust Motion Sensitivity if set too low to detect people
- Disable Motion Verification temporarily to see if recordings increase
- Check your Ring Protect subscription is active for cloud recording
WiFi Connection Issues or Frequent Disconnects
Floodlight Cams require a strong WiFi signal for reliable operation:
- Check the WiFi signal strength in the Ring app under Device Health
- Signal should be RSSI -60 or better (closer to 0 is stronger)
- Move your router closer or add a WiFi extender if signal is weak
- Switch from 5GHz to 2.4GHz network for better range outdoors
- Remove obstructions between the camera and your router
- Power cycle the camera by turning off the circuit breaker for 30 seconds
Live View Not Loading or Spinning
When Live View fails to connect:
- Force close the Ring app and reopen it
- Check your phone's internet connection
- Try switching between WiFi and cellular data on your phone
- Power cycle the Floodlight Cam at the circuit breaker
- Verify the camera shows as Online in the Ring app
- Update the Ring app to the latest version
Poor Video Quality or Night Vision Issues
If video quality is degraded or night vision isn't working properly:
- Clean the camera lens with a soft, dry microfiber cloth
- Check for spider webs or insects near the camera lens
- Ensure Color Night Vision is enabled if your model supports it
- Verify the IR lights aren't being blocked or reflected
- Check video quality settings in the app aren't set to lower resolution
- Remove any nearby reflective surfaces causing IR glare
Hardwired Power Issues
Ring Floodlight Cams require proper electrical wiring:
- Verify the junction box provides 100-240V AC power
- Check all wire connections are secure and properly connected
- Ensure the circuit breaker hasn't tripped
- Test the junction box with a voltage tester
- If recently installed, verify wiring matches the installation diagram
- Consult an electrician if you suspect wiring issues
Factory Reset Steps
If other troubleshooting fails, try a factory reset:
- Press and hold the setup button on top of the camera for 20 seconds
- Wait for the light on the front to flash
- Release the button and wait for the camera to restart
- Set up the camera again through the Ring app
- Reconfigure your motion zones and light settings
