What You Will Need

  • Eve Energy Strip (smart triple outlet power strip)
  • iPhone or iPad with the Eve app installed
  • Apple Home hub (Apple TV, HomePod, or iPad) for remote access and automations
  • Available wall outlet

Step 1: Choose a Location

The Eve Energy Strip is a smart power strip with three individually controllable outlets. Choose a location where you need to control multiple devices independently. Popular setups include:

  • Entertainment center — control the TV, sound bar, and gaming console separately
  • Home office — manage monitor, desk lamp, and charger individually
  • Living room — control table lamps and decorative lights on separate schedules

Select a location near a wall outlet where the strip's cable can reach comfortably without being stretched.

Step 2: Plug In the Energy Strip

Connect the Eve Energy Strip to a wall outlet. The strip draws power immediately upon connection. Each of the three outlets can be controlled independently through the Eve app, but the strip itself must be plugged into a standard electrical outlet. All three outlets are active by default when first powered on.

Step 3: Add to HomeKit via the Eve App

  1. Open the Eve app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap Add Accessory.
  3. Scan the HomeKit setup code on the bottom of the Energy Strip or on the included card.
  4. The app will connect via Bluetooth or WiFi.
  5. Assign the strip to a room in your home.
  6. Name each of the three outlets individually. For example, "TV," "Sound Bar," and "Lamp."

Giving each outlet a specific name allows you to control them with Siri by saying commands like "Hey Siri, turn off the Sound Bar" or "Hey Siri, turn on the Lamp."

Step 4: Connect Your Devices

Plug your devices into the three outlets on the Energy Strip. Each outlet supports devices up to the rated wattage listed on the strip. The Eve Energy Strip includes energy monitoring for each outlet, so you can track how much power each connected device uses.

Step 5: Monitor Energy Consumption

The Eve app provides detailed energy consumption data for each outlet. Open the Eve app and select the Energy Strip to view:

  • Current power draw in watts for each outlet
  • Total energy consumed in kilowatt-hours over time
  • Estimated cost based on your electricity rate (configurable in the app)
  • Voltage readings for diagnostic purposes

To set your electricity rate, go to the Eve app settings and enter your cost per kilowatt-hour. This allows the app to calculate estimated energy costs for each device.

Step 6: Create Schedules

In the Eve app, you can set individual schedules for each outlet. For example:

  1. Select an outlet in the Eve app.
  2. Tap Add Schedule.
  3. Set the time to turn on and turn off.
  4. Choose which days the schedule should be active.

Schedules run locally on the device, so they work even if your internet connection goes down.

Step 7: Set Up Scenes and Automations

Use the Eve app or Apple Home app to create scenes that control multiple outlets at once. For example, a "Movie Night" scene could turn on the TV and sound bar outlets while turning off the room lamp. You can also create automations that trigger based on time, location, or other sensor events.

Tips for Best Performance

  • Do not exceed the maximum total wattage across all three outlets. Check the specifications on the Energy Strip for the exact rating.
  • The Eve Energy Strip supports Thread when used with a Thread border router, providing faster and more reliable control than Bluetooth alone.
  • Use the energy monitoring feature to identify devices that consume excessive standby power, and set schedules to turn them off when not needed.
  • Keep the firmware updated through the Eve app for new features and performance improvements.
