What's in the Box

Your GE CYNC Smart Indoor Outlet package includes the smart plug-in outlet and a quick start guide. Unlike in-wall outlets that require wiring, this device simply plugs into an existing wall outlet and connects to your home's 2.4GHz WiFi network directly — no hub or bridge required. It provides smart on/off control for lamps, fans, small appliances, and other plug-in devices.

Before You Begin

  • Download the Cync app (formerly C by GE) from the App Store or Google Play
  • Create a Cync account or log into your existing one
  • Make sure your WiFi router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz network — the Cync outlet does not support 5GHz
  • Enable Bluetooth on your phone, as the initial pairing happens over Bluetooth
  • Have your WiFi password ready

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Plug in the outlet. Insert the GE CYNC Smart Indoor Outlet into a standard wall receptacle. The LED indicator on the front should begin blinking, signaling that the device is in pairing mode and ready to connect.
  2. Open the Cync app. Tap the + icon to add a new device. Select Indoor Plug from the device list. The app will begin scanning for nearby Cync devices using Bluetooth.
  3. Select your WiFi network. When prompted, choose your 2.4GHz WiFi network and enter the password. The Cync app transfers your WiFi credentials to the outlet via Bluetooth.
  4. Wait for the connection. The outlet will connect to your WiFi network, and the LED indicator will stop blinking and remain steady. This process typically takes 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Name the outlet and assign a room. Give it a descriptive name like "Living Room Lamp" or "Bedroom Fan" and assign it to a room in the Cync app for organized control.
  6. Test the outlet. Toggle the outlet on and off from the app. Plug a lamp or device into it and confirm the smart control works as expected.

Smart Home Integration

The GE CYNC Smart Indoor Outlet works natively with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Link your Cync account in the Google Home or Alexa app to enable voice commands like "Alexa, turn off the bedroom fan" or "Hey Google, turn on the living room lamp." You can also include the outlet in Alexa routines or Google Home automations for hands-free control throughout your day.

Scheduling and Automation Tips

The Cync app supports built-in scheduling so you can automate your plug-in devices without needing a separate hub. Set your coffee maker to turn on every weekday morning at 6:30 AM, or schedule holiday lights to turn on at sunset and off at midnight. You can also create groups to control multiple Cync outlets at once, such as turning off all living room devices with a single tap or voice command. The away-from-home feature lets you set random on/off times to simulate occupancy while you're traveling.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the outlet's LED doesn't blink when plugged in, unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it back in. If it still doesn't blink, press and hold the button on the outlet for about 10 seconds to initiate a factory reset. If the Cync app can't discover the outlet, verify that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and that you're within a few feet of the outlet. Also double-check that your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network, as the outlet won't pair if your phone is on a 5GHz band.
