What's in the Box

The Govee Outdoor Smart Plug package includes the dual-outlet smart plug unit with a weatherproof housing, a quick start guide, and a warranty card. The plug features an IP44 weather-resistant rating, meaning it can handle rain, snow, and general outdoor conditions. Each of the two outlets can be controlled independently, giving you flexible scheduling options for different outdoor devices like string lights and fountains.

Prerequisites

Before starting setup, make sure you have the following ready:

  • A 2.4GHz WiFi network (the plug does not support 5GHz bands)
  • The Govee Home app installed on your iOS or Android device
  • A Govee account (create one for free in the app if you don't have one)
  • A GFCI-protected outdoor outlet within range of your WiFi signal
  • Your WiFi network name and password handy

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Plug the Govee Outdoor Smart Plug into your GFCI-protected outdoor outlet. The LED indicator on the plug should begin blinking, indicating it's in pairing mode.
  2. Open the Govee Home app and tap the + icon in the upper right corner to add a new device.
  3. Select Outdoor Plug from the device list, or use the search bar to find your specific model number.
  4. Confirm that the indicator light on the plug is blinking rapidly. If it isn't, press and hold the power button on the plug for about 5 seconds until the light starts flashing.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the plug to your 2.4GHz WiFi network. Enter your WiFi password when asked.
  6. Wait for the app to confirm a successful connection. This usually takes 15 to 30 seconds.
  7. Name each outlet (for example, "Patio Lights" and "Fountain") so you can control them independently.

App Pairing Tips

The Govee Outdoor Smart Plug connects via both Bluetooth and WiFi. During initial setup, make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone, as the app uses it for the initial handshake before switching to WiFi control. If you're setting up far from your router, consider temporarily moving closer to ensure a strong signal during pairing. Once paired, the plug communicates over WiFi, so its permanent location just needs decent WiFi coverage.

Within the Govee Home app, you can set individual timers and schedules for each outlet. This is especially useful for automating holiday lighting on one outlet while keeping a security light on the other outlet on a separate schedule.

Smart Home Integration

The Govee Outdoor Smart Plug works with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control. To enable this:

  • Alexa: Open the Alexa app, go to Skills & Games, search for "Govee Home," and link your account. Your outlets will appear as individual devices you can add to rooms and routines.
  • Google Assistant: Open the Google Home app, tap +, then Set up device, choose Works with Google, and search for Govee Home. Link your account to discover your outlets.

Once linked, you can use voice commands like "Alexa, turn on patio lights" or "Hey Google, turn off the fountain" to control each outlet independently. You can also incorporate the plug into automation routines triggered by sunset, sunrise, or specific times.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the plug won't enter pairing mode, unplug it for 10 seconds, plug it back in, then press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. Make sure you're connecting to a 2.4GHz network, not a 5GHz one. If your router broadcasts a combined network, try temporarily disabling the 5GHz band during setup. If the plug appears offline in the app after setup, check that your outdoor WiFi signal is strong enough by testing with your phone at the plug's location.
