What's in the Box

The IKEA TRETAKT Smart Plug package includes the smart plug unit and a quick start guide. The TRETAKT is a compact, Thread-enabled smart plug that fits into a standard grounded outlet. Unlike older IKEA smart plugs that used Zigbee, the TRETAKT uses the Thread protocol and is Matter-compatible, making it part of IKEA's latest generation of smart home devices. You will need an IKEA Dirigera hub to set up and control this plug.

Prerequisites

  • An IKEA Dirigera hub already set up and connected to your home Wi-Fi network
  • The IKEA Home Smart app installed on your smartphone (iOS or Android), updated to the latest version
  • A grounded electrical outlet within reasonable range of your Dirigera hub or other Thread devices
  • Ensure the Dirigera hub firmware is up to date by checking in the IKEA Home Smart app under Settings > Hub > Check for Updates

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Plug in the TRETAKT. Insert the smart plug into a standard grounded wall outlet. A small LED indicator on the side of the plug will begin blinking, signaling that it is in pairing mode and ready to connect.
  2. Open the IKEA Home Smart app. On the home screen, tap the + icon to add a new device. Select Plugs from the device category list.
  3. Pair the plug. The app will begin scanning for new Thread devices. When the TRETAKT appears, tap it to begin pairing. The process typically takes 15 to 45 seconds as the plug joins your Thread network through the Dirigera hub.
  4. Name and assign a room. Give the plug a descriptive name such as "Living Room Lamp Plug" and assign it to the correct room. This makes voice control and automation easier to manage.
  5. Test the plug. Use the IKEA Home Smart app to toggle the plug on and off. You can also press the physical button on the side of the TRETAKT to manually switch it. Confirm that whatever device you have plugged into it responds correctly.
  6. Set up schedules or automations. In the app, tap on the TRETAKT and configure timers, schedules, or scene triggers. For example, you can schedule a lamp to turn on at sunset and off at bedtime.

Smart Home Integration Tips

Because the TRETAKT uses Thread, it acts as a Thread router node when powered, helping to strengthen your Thread mesh network. This benefits other Thread devices in your home like the SOMRIG button and PARASOLL sensors by providing additional network paths. Through the Dirigera hub's Matter support, the TRETAKT can be shared with Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa. Link your Dirigera hub to these platforms in their respective apps to control the plug with voice commands like "Hey Google, turn off the living room lamp" or to include it in cross-platform automations.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the TRETAKT does not enter pairing mode when plugged in, unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it back in. If the LED does not blink, try a factory reset by pressing and holding the physical button on the plug for about 10 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly. If the plug pairs but loses connection intermittently, check that your Dirigera hub is within a reasonable range — Thread devices form a mesh, so adding more powered Thread devices between the hub and distant plugs can improve reliability. Make sure your Dirigera hub has the latest firmware, as early versions had occasional Thread pairing issues that were resolved in subsequent updates.
