What's in the Box

The Kasa Smart Plug Mini EP10 comes with one compact smart plug and a quick start guide. The EP10 is designed with a slim profile so that it occupies only one socket on a standard wall outlet, leaving the adjacent socket free for other plugs. It provides a single controllable outlet for turning devices on and off remotely. No smart home hub is required because the EP10 connects directly to your WiFi network.

Prerequisites

Before getting started, make sure you have:

  • A standard grounded wall outlet
  • A 2.4 GHz WiFi network (the EP10 does not support 5 GHz)
  • A smartphone with the Kasa Smart app installed (iOS or Android)
  • A TP-Link account created within the Kasa app

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Plug the EP10 into a standard wall outlet. The LED indicator on the side of the plug will begin blinking amber and green, indicating it is in pairing mode and ready for setup.
  2. Open the Kasa Smart app on your phone and tap the "+" icon in the top right corner to add a new device.
  3. Select "Smart Plugs" from the device category list and choose the EP10 Mini from the available options.
  4. The app will search for the plug and guide you through the WiFi connection process. Select your 2.4 GHz home network and enter the password when prompted.
  5. The plug will connect to your network in about 15 to 30 seconds. Once paired, name the plug based on the device you plan to control — for example, "Bedroom Lamp," "Coffee Maker," or "Fan."
  6. Plug your device into the EP10 and test the on/off control from the app to confirm everything is working.

App Pairing and Configuration

Once connected, the Kasa app provides full remote control over the EP10 from anywhere with an internet connection. Set daily or weekly schedules to automate your devices — turn the coffee maker on at 6:30 AM every weekday or switch the bedroom lamp off at 11 PM nightly. Countdown timers automatically turn the plug off after a set duration, which is useful for curling irons, space heaters, or other devices you do not want left on indefinitely. The "Away Mode" feature randomly toggles the plug to simulate someone being home while you are traveling. Group multiple EP10 plugs together in the app for one-tap control of several devices at once.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The EP10 works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant out of the box. Enable the "Kasa Smart" skill in the Alexa app or add the Kasa service in Google Home to link your account. Use voice commands like "Alexa, turn on the coffee maker" or "Hey Google, turn off the fan." Add the EP10 to routines for multi-device automation — a "Good Morning" routine could turn on the coffee maker plug, adjust smart thermostat temperature, and turn on the kitchen lights all at once. The EP10 also supports IFTTT for custom triggers, such as turning on a lamp when your smart doorbell detects motion.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the EP10 does not enter pairing mode, press and hold the power button on the plug for about 5 seconds until the LED blinks amber and green. If the plug pairs but loses connection intermittently, check that the WiFi signal is strong at the outlet location. The EP10's compact size means its internal antenna is small, so it is more sensitive to WiFi range than larger devices. Consider a WiFi extender if the outlet is far from your router. If the plug stops responding through the app but the physical button still works, reboot the plug by unplugging it for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. Check for firmware updates in the Kasa app under the device settings, as updates can fix connectivity bugs.
