What's in the Box

The Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Power Strip KP303 comes with the power strip unit featuring three smart outlets, a power cable, and a quick start guide. The KP303 also includes two USB ports for charging smaller devices. Unlike the HS300 model, the three outlets on the KP303 are controlled as a single unit rather than individually. The strip includes built-in surge protection to safeguard your connected devices. No hub is required for operation.

Prerequisites

Before you start setting up the KP303, confirm you have:

  • A wall outlet within reach of the power cable
  • A 2.4 GHz WiFi network (the KP303 does not support 5 GHz)
  • A smartphone with the Kasa Smart app installed (iOS or Android)
  • A TP-Link account, which you can create for free in the Kasa app

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Position the KP303 near the devices you plan to plug in — a desk, nightstand, or entertainment center are common locations. Keep the strip in an open, ventilated area and avoid stacking other electronics on top of it.
  2. Plug the KP303 into a wall outlet. The LED indicator on the strip will start blinking, signaling it is ready for WiFi pairing.
  3. Open the Kasa Smart app and tap the "+" icon to add a new device. Select "Smart Power Strips" and choose the KP303 from the available options.
  4. The app will guide you through connecting the strip to your 2.4 GHz WiFi network. Select your network and enter the password when prompted. The strip typically connects within 20 to 30 seconds.
  5. Name the power strip something descriptive like "Desk Power Strip" or "Bedroom Charger." Since all three outlets are controlled together, the name should reflect the group of devices it powers.
  6. Plug your devices into the three outlets and the USB ports. The USB ports provide charging power continuously and are not controlled by the smart features.

App Pairing and Configuration

The Kasa app allows you to toggle all three outlets on and off simultaneously with a single tap. Set up schedules to power the strip on and off at specific times — for example, turning on your desk lamp and monitor at 8 AM and off at 6 PM on weekdays. Use countdown timers to automatically cut power after a set duration, which is useful for phone chargers or humidifiers. The "Away Mode" feature randomly toggles the strip to simulate occupancy while you are traveling. You can also check the current power state of the strip remotely from anywhere with an internet connection.

Smart Home Integration Tips

The KP303 integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. After linking your TP-Link Kasa account in the voice assistant app, use commands like "Alexa, turn off the desk power strip" or "Hey Google, turn on the bedroom charger." Incorporate the strip into Alexa routines or Google Home automations — for example, include it in a "Goodnight" routine that powers down your desk equipment along with turning off smart lights. The KP303 also works with IFTTT for more advanced automations, such as cutting power to the strip when you leave home based on your phone's geolocation.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the KP303 does not show up during setup, hold the reset button on the strip for 5 seconds until the LED blinks rapidly, then restart the pairing process in the Kasa app. Make sure your phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network, not 5 GHz. If the strip connects but becomes unresponsive, try unplugging it for 10 seconds and plugging it back in to reboot. If you are having trouble with WiFi range, consider moving the strip closer to your router or using a WiFi range extender. The physical power button on the strip always works regardless of WiFi connectivity, so you can manually control it even during network outages.
