What You'll Need

  • Leviton Decora Smart Z-Wave Outlet
  • Z-Wave smart home hub (SmartThings, Hubitat, Vera, or similar)
  • Neutral wire at outlet box
  • Screwdriver and voltage tester
  • Wire connectors

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker and verify with a voltage tester
  2. Remove existing outlet - Take off the cover plate and unscrew the outlet from the box
  3. Identify wires - Note the hot (black), neutral (white), and ground (green/bare) wires
  4. Connect the Leviton outlet:
    • Connect hot wire to the brass terminal
    • Connect neutral wire to the silver terminal
    • Connect ground wire to the green terminal
  5. Secure the outlet in the electrical box and attach the cover plate
  6. Restore power at the breaker
  7. Add to Z-Wave hub:
    • Put your hub in inclusion/pairing mode
    • Press the button on the outlet to initiate pairing
    • The LED will blink during pairing and turn solid when connected

Troubleshooting
