What You'll Need
- Leviton Decora Smart Z-Wave Outlet
- Z-Wave smart home hub (SmartThings, Hubitat, Vera, or similar)
- Neutral wire at outlet box
- Screwdriver and voltage tester
- Wire connectors
Step-by-Step Setup
- Turn off power at the circuit breaker and verify with a voltage tester
- Remove existing outlet - Take off the cover plate and unscrew the outlet from the box
- Identify wires - Note the hot (black), neutral (white), and ground (green/bare) wires
- Connect the Leviton outlet:
- Connect hot wire to the brass terminal
- Connect neutral wire to the silver terminal
- Connect ground wire to the green terminal
- Secure the outlet in the electrical box and attach the cover plate
- Restore power at the breaker
- Add to Z-Wave hub:
- Put your hub in inclusion/pairing mode
- Press the button on the outlet to initiate pairing
- The LED will blink during pairing and turn solid when connected

Troubleshooting
- Outlet not pairing: Perform a factory reset by pressing and holding the button for 7 seconds until the LED flashes amber
- No power to outlet: Verify circuit breaker is on and wiring connections are secure
- Poor Z-Wave range: Add more Z-Wave devices to create a stronger mesh network
- LED not illuminating: Check that neutral wire is properly connected
