HomeKit Setup (If Supported)
If your Meross plug model supports HomeKit, you have two setup paths:
- Via Apple Home app: Open the Home app, tap "+", select "Add Accessory," and scan the HomeKit code printed on the plug body or the quick start guide. The plug pairs directly into HomeKit without needing the Meross app at all.
- Via Meross app first: Set up through the Meross app as described above, then add to HomeKit from the plug's settings page in the Meross app.
Once in HomeKit, the plug works with Siri voice commands, HomeKit automations, and scenes. It also shows up in the Apple Home app on Mac and iPad.
Practical Use Cases
- Lamp control with Siri: If you are in the Apple ecosystem, the HomeKit support means you can say "Hey Siri, turn off the bedroom lamp" without needing any extra bridge or hub.
- SmartThings automations: Add the plug to SmartThings and trigger it based on motion sensors, door contacts, or other SmartThings devices for more advanced automations.
- Simple appliance scheduling: Set up schedules for fans, humidifiers, or space heaters to run only during certain hours.
Troubleshooting
- Plug not in pairing mode: Press and hold the button on the plug for 5 seconds until the LED starts flashing rapidly.
- HomeKit code not working: The HomeKit setup code is printed on the plug body and also included in the packaging materials. If scanning fails, try entering the 8-digit code manually in the Home app.
- Connection fails during setup: Double check that you are connecting to a 2.4GHz network. The plug does not support 5GHz Wi-Fi.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the button for 10 or more seconds until the LED starts flashing in a different pattern. This clears all settings including HomeKit pairing.
- Plug responds slowly: Check your Wi-Fi signal strength. Meross plugs rely on a cloud connection for remote control, so a weak or congested network can introduce delays. For HomeKit users, having an Apple TV or HomePod as a home hub enables local control which is faster.
