What You'll Need

  • Sengled Smart Plug
  • Sengled Home app (iOS or Android)
  • For Zigbee models: Sengled Hub or compatible Zigbee hub
  • For Wi-Fi models: 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Download the Sengled Home app and sign in or create an account.
  2. Plug in the Sengled Smart Plug. The LED will indicate it is powered on.
  3. Add the device based on your model type:
    • Wi-Fi model: Tap "+" in the app, select the plug, and connect to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Enter your password and wait for setup to complete.
    • Zigbee model: Make sure your Sengled Hub (or other Zigbee hub) is online. Add the plug through the hub in the Sengled app.
  4. Follow the pairing steps. The LED indicates pairing mode with a blinking pattern.
  5. Name and assign a room to the plug.

Key Features

  • Available in both Wi-Fi and Zigbee versions
  • Works with Alexa and Google Home
  • Energy monitoring on select models
  • Scheduling and countdown timers
  • Compact design that fits most outlets without blocking
  • Physical on/off button for manual control

Wi-Fi vs. Zigbee: Which to Choose

Sengled offers both Wi-Fi and Zigbee versions of their smart plug, and the choice matters:

  • Wi-Fi version: No hub required. Works directly with your router. Simpler to set up but adds to your Wi-Fi network load. Best if you only have a few smart devices.
  • Zigbee version: Requires a Sengled Hub or compatible Zigbee hub (SmartThings, Hubitat, etc.). Better for larger smart home setups because Zigbee devices do not congest your Wi-Fi. Each plug also acts as a Zigbee repeater.
  • If you already own Sengled bulbs with a Sengled Hub: Get the Zigbee version so everything runs on one hub and one mesh network.

Sengled Ecosystem

Sengled is best known for their smart bulbs, and the plug works well alongside them:

  • Group Sengled bulbs and plugs in the same room for unified control.
  • Create scenes that coordinate bulb brightness and color with plug-controlled devices.
  • Use the Sengled Hub's scheduling to run all devices on synchronized timers.

Troubleshooting

  • Pairing mode: Press and hold the button for 5 seconds until the LED starts blinking. This puts the plug in pairing mode regardless of whether it is the Wi-Fi or Zigbee version.
  • Wi-Fi model only connects to 2.4GHz: The plug does not support 5GHz. If your router uses a single combined SSID, try standing farther from the router during setup or create a separate 2.4GHz network.
  • Zigbee model out of range: Position the plug within range of the Sengled Hub or other Zigbee repeaters. Adding more Zigbee devices between the hub and the plug can extend the mesh and improve reliability.
  • Factory reset: Press and hold the button for 10 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly. This clears all settings and returns the plug to factory defaults.
  • Energy monitoring not available: Only select models include energy monitoring. Check your specific model's specifications to confirm.
