SwitchBot Ecosystem and Hub Options
The Plug Mini works fine as a standalone Wi-Fi device with Alexa and Google. But adding a SwitchBot hub unlocks additional platforms:
- SwitchBot Hub Mini: Adds Apple HomeKit support. The plug shows up in the Apple Home app and works with Siri voice control and HomeKit automations.
- SwitchBot Hub 2: Adds Matter support, which means you can use the plug with Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings, and any other Matter controller all at the same time.
- SwitchBot scenes: If you have other SwitchBot products (curtain motors, sensors, light strips), you can build automations that coordinate all of them through the SwitchBot app.
Practical Use Cases
- Appliance cost tracking: Monitor your home office setup, gaming rig, or older refrigerator to see the actual electricity cost over a month.
- SwitchBot automation: Combine with a SwitchBot motion sensor to turn on a fan or heater when someone enters a room, and off when the room is empty.
- Standby power elimination: Track which devices draw phantom power when "off" and schedule the plug to cut power overnight.
Troubleshooting
- Energy data is delayed: Readings update every few seconds to a few minutes depending on the load. If no data appears after 5 minutes, make sure a device is actually plugged into the Plug Mini and drawing power.
- Inaccurate readings: Plug the Plug Mini directly into a wall outlet. Power strips and extension cords can affect accuracy. Very low-draw devices (under a few watts) may show slightly less accurate readings.
- HomeKit or Matter not available: These features require a SwitchBot Hub (Hub Mini for HomeKit, Hub 2 for Matter). The plug alone only supports Alexa, Google, and the SwitchBot app.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the button for 10 or more seconds until the LED flashes in a reset pattern. This clears all settings and you will need to set up from scratch.
- Bluetooth not finding the plug: Stay within a few feet of the plug during setup. Close other Bluetooth-heavy apps and try again. Make sure the SwitchBot app has Bluetooth permissions.
