Step-by-Step Setup

Plug in the Third Reality Matter Plug. The LED will indicate it is powered on and ready for pairing.
Open your Matter controller app (Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings, or Alexa).
Add a Matter device:
- Scan the Matter QR code printed on the plug or its packaging
- If the QR code does not scan, enter the 11-digit numeric setup code printed near the QR code
Select the network if prompted. Thread models need a Thread border router; Wi-Fi models connect to your existing Wi-Fi.
Assign a room and name to the plug.
Optional: Add to additional platforms. Matter supports multi-admin, so you can add the plug to a second or third controller after the initial setup.

Matter is a universal smart home standard that solves the "which app do I need?" problem:

One plug, every platform: A single Matter plug works with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and SmartThings. You do not need to pick a side.
Multi-admin: You can control the plug from multiple platforms simultaneously. Add it to Apple Home first, then share it to Google Home for a household where people use different ecosystems.
Local operation: Matter devices communicate locally on your network. Basic on/off commands work even if your internet goes down.
Thread vs. Wi-Fi: Thread models create a mesh network and need a Thread border router (Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini, some Google Nest devices). Wi-Fi models connect directly to your router like any other Wi-Fi device.

Mixed-ecosystem households: One family member uses Apple Home, another uses Google. The Matter plug works for both without any complicated bridging.
Future-proof purchase: As more platforms adopt Matter, your plug will work with new ecosystems without replacement.
Simple, reliable control: Matter's local communication means the plug responds quickly and works during internet outages.

QR code will not scan: Make sure there is good lighting on the QR code. If it still fails, enter the 11-digit numeric code manually. The code is printed near the QR code on the device or packaging.
Thread model not connecting: You need a Thread border router on your network. Apple TV 4K (2nd gen or later), HomePod mini, and some Google Nest Hub devices serve as Thread border routers. Make sure yours is powered on and connected.
Factory reset: Press and hold the button for 10 seconds until the LED flashes in a reset pattern. This clears all Matter pairing data so you can start fresh.
Multi-admin not working: Complete the first platform's setup fully before trying to add the plug to a second platform. Some controllers need a few minutes to establish the initial pairing before sharing is available.
Plug offline in one platform but not another: Each platform maintains its own connection to the plug. If one platform loses contact, check that platform's hub or controller. The plug itself may be fine.
