What You'll Need

  • Treatlife Outdoor Smart Plug
  • Treatlife app or Smart Life app (iOS or Android)
  • 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
  • Outdoor GFCI-protected outlet

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Plug into an outdoor GFCI outlet. Press the test and reset buttons on the GFCI to confirm it is working properly before connecting the smart plug.
  2. Download the Treatlife app (or Smart Life app) if you do not have it yet, and sign in.
  3. Put the plug in pairing mode. The LEDs should flash rapidly after plugging in. If they do not, hold the button for 5 to 10 seconds until they start blinking.
  4. Add the device in the app:
    • Tap "+" and select the outdoor plug type
    • Follow the Wi-Fi setup steps and enter your 2.4GHz credentials
  5. Name each outlet. The plug has two independent outlets, so assign clear names like "patio lights" and "bug zapper."

Key Features

  • IP44 weather-resistant rating
  • Two independently controlled outlets
  • Tuya/Smart Life platform compatible
  • Works with Alexa and Google Home
  • Sunrise/sunset scheduling
  • Individual outlet timers and schedules

Sunrise/Sunset Scheduling

The Treatlife app supports sunrise and sunset triggers that adjust automatically based on your location. This is the most useful feature for outdoor plugs because you do not have to manually update schedules as the seasons change. Set landscape lights to come on at sunset and the app handles the rest year-round.

Practical Outdoor Use Cases

  • Budget landscape lighting: Treatlife's affordable pricing makes it a cost-effective way to automate outdoor lights. Put pathway lights on one outlet and spotlights on the other.
  • Garden maintenance: Run a fountain pump during the day on one outlet and decorative garden lights in the evening on the other.
  • Seasonal decorations: Control two different sets of holiday decorations on independent schedules. Inflatables off at bedtime, light displays off at midnight.

Outdoor Placement Tips

  • The IP44 rating protects against splashing water but not submersion. Keep the plug above ground level where puddles can form.
  • Position the plug under an overhang, eave, or outlet cover for additional weather protection.
  • Check that the total load across both outlets stays within the rated capacity.
  • Periodically inspect the plug and cord connections for signs of weathering or corrosion.

Troubleshooting

  • Weak outdoor Wi-Fi: This is the most common issue with outdoor smart plugs. Add a Wi-Fi extender inside your home near the closest wall to the outdoor outlet. Mesh Wi-Fi systems with outdoor-friendly node placement also work well.
  • GFCI keeps tripping: Check for moisture in the connections or an overloaded circuit. Reduce the load and ensure all plugs and cords are dry. A tripping GFCI is a safety feature, not a malfunction.
  • Only one outlet appears in the app: Both outlets should show as separate devices. If only one is visible, remove the plug from the app and add it again. Also make sure the Treatlife app is updated to the latest version.
  • Factory reset: Press and hold the button until the LED blink pattern changes. The plug resets to defaults and enters pairing mode.
  • EZ mode vs AP mode: If the default EZ mode pairing fails, hold the button to switch to AP mode (slow blink). Connect your phone to the plug's hotspot and complete setup that way.
