What You Will Need

  • Ring Solar Pathlight
  • Ring Smart Lighting Bridge (required for app control and smart features)
  • Ring app (iOS or Android) with an active account
  • An outdoor location that receives direct sunlight for at least a few hours per day

Step 1: Ensure the Smart Lighting Bridge is Set Up

The Ring Solar Pathlight requires the Ring Smart Lighting Bridge for app control, device linking, scheduling, and other smart features. The Bridge must be plugged in, connected to your WiFi, and showing as online in the Ring app before adding the pathlight.

Step 2: Unbox and Prepare the Pathlight

  1. Remove the Solar Pathlight from its packaging.
  2. The pathlight has a built-in rechargeable battery that is charged by the integrated solar panel on top. Before installing, place the pathlight in direct sunlight for at least eight hours (or a full day of sun) to build up an initial charge.
  3. Assemble the light housing onto the ground stake if they are separate. Twist the housing clockwise onto the stake to lock it in place.

Step 3: Add the Pathlight to the Ring App

  1. Open the Ring app and tap Set Up a Device.
  2. Select Smart Lighting, then choose Solar Pathlight.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions. The app will search for the pathlight through your Smart Lighting Bridge.
  4. Once discovered, name it and assign it to a group or location (e.g., "Garden" or "Front Path").

Step 4: Install the Pathlight

  1. Choose a location along a walkway, garden path, or driveway where the solar panel on top will receive direct sunlight. Avoid areas shaded by trees, overhangs, or walls during peak daylight hours.
  2. Push the stake firmly into the ground. The light housing should be at a comfortable height, with the solar panel facing upward toward the sky.
  3. Space multiple solar pathlights approximately six to eight feet apart for even path illumination.

Step 5: Configure Smart Features

  • Motion Detection — The Solar Pathlight has a built-in motion sensor. Adjust sensitivity in the Ring app to control how far away motion is detected.
  • Brightness — Adjust the light output level. Lower brightness conserves battery charge for cloudy days.
  • Schedules — Set the pathlight to activate at dusk and deactivate at a set time, or rely on motion-only activation to conserve power.
  • Linked Devices — Link the pathlight to Ring cameras so the light activates when a camera detects motion nearby.
  • Groups — Add multiple pathlights to a group so all lights along a path activate together.

Tips for Best Performance

  • Solar pathlights need several hours of direct sunlight daily to maintain a reliable charge. In areas with limited sun, consider the battery-powered version instead.
  • During winter months or extended cloudy periods, the battery may deplete faster. Lowering brightness helps compensate.
  • Periodically clean the solar panel on top of the pathlight to remove dust, pollen, or debris that can reduce charging efficiency.
  • The Solar Pathlight is weather-resistant and designed for year-round outdoor use in all seasons.
  • If the light is not activating at night, verify it has received sufficient sunlight during the day and check the battery level in the Ring app.
