What's in the Box

Your GE Profile French Door Refrigerator arrives with adjustable shelving, humidity-controlled crisper drawers, a freezer drawer, an ice maker, and all the hardware needed for water line connection. The smart connectivity features are built into the refrigerator itself — there's no separate module to install. You'll need the SmartHQ app (GE's connected appliance platform) to unlock remote monitoring, diagnostics, and smart home integration.

Before You Begin

  • Download the SmartHQ app from the App Store or Google Play
  • Create a SmartHQ account or sign in
  • Ensure your kitchen has a 2.4GHz WiFi network — GE smart appliances connect over 2.4GHz only
  • Verify the refrigerator is plugged in, powered on, and has been running for at least a few minutes
  • If connecting the water line for the ice maker and water dispenser, have a water supply shutoff valve and a compatible water line kit ready

Physical Setup

  1. Position the refrigerator. Leave at least one inch of clearance on the sides and top for proper airflow. Ensure the unit is level by adjusting the front leveling legs — an unlevel refrigerator can cause door alignment issues and improper ice maker function.
  2. Connect the water line. If your model includes an ice maker and water dispenser, connect the water supply line to the inlet valve at the rear of the unit. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks at every connection point.
  3. Power on. Plug the refrigerator into a dedicated, grounded 120V outlet. Avoid using extension cords. Allow 24 hours for the unit to reach optimal temperature before loading it with food.

WiFi and SmartHQ Setup

  1. Enable WiFi on the refrigerator. On the refrigerator's control panel, locate the WiFi or Connected Home settings. Press and hold the designated WiFi button (usually marked with a signal icon) until the WiFi indicator light begins flashing, putting the appliance into pairing mode.
  2. Open the SmartHQ app. Tap Add Appliance and select your GE Profile refrigerator model. The app will guide you through scanning the connected appliance tag (a QR code on the inside of the door or on the unit's data plate).
  3. Connect to your WiFi network. Enter your 2.4GHz WiFi network name and password when prompted. The app sends the credentials to the refrigerator.
  4. Confirm the connection. The WiFi indicator on the refrigerator should stop blinking and remain solid once connected. The SmartHQ app will display real-time status information for the unit.

Smart Home Integration

The SmartHQ app supports integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Link your SmartHQ account in the Alexa or Google Home app to use voice commands. Ask about the refrigerator's temperature, get filter replacement reminders, or receive alerts if the door is left open. The SmartHQ app also provides diagnostic tools — if something goes wrong, the app can read error codes and suggest fixes before you call a technician.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the refrigerator doesn't appear in the SmartHQ app, make sure the WiFi indicator is blinking (pairing mode). Restart the pairing process if it timed out. If the connection drops frequently, check that the refrigerator is within range of your WiFi router — large metal appliances can partially block signals, so a nearby WiFi extender may help. If the ice maker doesn't produce ice after 24 hours, verify the water line is connected and the supply valve is open.
