What's in the Box
Your LG InstaView Side-by-Side Refrigerator arrives with adjustable shelving, crisper drawers, an ice maker assembly, water line connection hardware, leveling legs, and user documentation. The InstaView panel on the door is pre-installed. Depending on your model, you may also receive door handles that require attachment. Keep all packaging materials until you've confirmed the unit is working properly, as LG may need the original packaging for any warranty claims.
Prerequisites
Before delivery, measure your doorways, hallways, and the final installation space to ensure the refrigerator fits. Leave at least one inch of clearance on each side and two inches behind the unit for proper airflow. You'll need a grounded three-prong electrical outlet within reach of the power cord, and a cold water supply line with a shut-off valve for the ice maker and water dispenser. Have an adjustable wrench ready for the water line connection. Download the LG ThinQ app on your iOS or Android device ahead of time.
Step-by-Step Setup
- Position the refrigerator in its designated space, leaving adequate clearance on all sides. Do not plug it in yet.
- Adjust the leveling legs using a wrench until the unit is stable and slightly tilted back so the doors close by gravity. Use a level to confirm.
- If door handles need to be attached, align them with the mounting holes and tighten the set screws with the included Allen wrench.
- Connect the water supply line to the inlet valve at the back of the refrigerator. Use the included compression fitting and tighten securely. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.
- Plug the refrigerator into a grounded outlet. Avoid using extension cords, as they can cause voltage drops that damage the compressor.
- Set the refrigerator temperature to 37 degrees F and the freezer to 0 degrees F using the control panel on the door. Allow 24 hours for the unit to reach stable temperatures before loading food.
- Run the water dispenser for about three minutes to flush the water line and filter. Discard the first two to three gallons of water.
- Activate the ice maker by lowering the ice maker arm or pressing the ice maker button on the control panel. The first batch of ice will be ready in about 12 to 24 hours.
Pairing with the LG ThinQ App
Open the LG ThinQ app and sign in or create an LG account. Tap the "+" icon to add a new product and select "Refrigerator" from the appliance categories. The app will prompt you to press and hold the WiFi button on the refrigerator's control panel for three seconds until the WiFi indicator blinks. Select your home 2.4GHz WiFi network and enter the password. The refrigerator will connect within a minute. Once paired, you can monitor temperatures, receive door-open alerts, run diagnostics, and use the InstaView feature through the app.
Smart Home Integration Tips
The LG ThinQ app connects with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice commands. Link your ThinQ account in the Alexa or Google Home app to ask questions like "Is my refrigerator door closed?" or adjust temperature settings by voice. LG ThinQ also supports routines, so you can include the refrigerator in morning or evening automations. The InstaView panel illuminates when you knock twice, letting you see inside without opening the door, which saves energy. For proactive maintenance, enable ThinQ notifications to receive alerts about filter replacements and temperature anomalies.
Quick Troubleshooting
If the refrigerator won't connect to WiFi, verify you're using a 2.4GHz network, as it does not support 5GHz. Power-cycle the unit by unplugging for 30 seconds if the WiFi indicator won't blink. If the InstaView panel doesn't light up on knock, ensure the feature is enabled in the control panel settings. For temperature issues, allow a full 24 hours after initial setup before troubleshooting, and avoid overloading shelves which can block air circulation. Use the LG ThinQ app's Smart Diagnosis feature to run automated tests if problems persist.
