What You Will Need
- Samsung Bespoke AI Family Hub Refrigerator (installed, connected to power and water supply)
- SmartThings app (iOS or Android) with a Samsung account
- A 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network
- Your WiFi network name (SSID) and password
Step 1: Complete Physical Installation
Before setting up smart features, ensure the refrigerator is fully installed:
- The refrigerator is level on a flat surface with adequate clearance behind and above for ventilation.
- The water supply line is connected if you plan to use the ice maker and water dispenser.
- The power cord is plugged into a grounded outlet (do not use an extension cord).
- Allow the refrigerator to run for at least 24 hours to reach its optimal temperature before loading food.
Step 2: Set Up the Family Hub Display
- The Family Hub features a large touchscreen display on the right-hand door. When you first power on the refrigerator, the screen will guide you through the initial setup.
- Select your language and region.
- Connect the display to your WiFi network. The Family Hub supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. Select your network and enter your password.
- Sign in with your Samsung account. If you do not have one, you can create one directly on the display.
- Accept the terms and conditions and complete the initial setup wizard.
Step 3: Add the Refrigerator in the SmartThings App
- Open the SmartThings app on your phone and tap the + icon, then select Add Device.
- Tap Samsung, then select Refrigerator.
- The app will search for the refrigerator on your WiFi network. Since the Family Hub is already connected to WiFi through the display setup, the app should find it quickly.
- Once found, confirm and add the refrigerator. Name it (e.g., "Kitchen Fridge") and assign it to a room.
Step 4: Explore AI Family Hub Features
The Bespoke AI Family Hub offers an extensive set of smart capabilities through the touchscreen and SmartThings app:
- View Inside Cameras — Internal cameras let you see what is inside the refrigerator from the SmartThings app, even while you are at the grocery store.
- AI Vision — The refrigerator uses AI to identify food items inside and track expiration dates, helping reduce food waste.
- Meal Planning — Get recipe suggestions based on the ingredients the AI detects inside your fridge.
- Family Board — Use the touchscreen as a shared family message board, calendar, and photo display.
- Entertainment — Stream music through built-in speakers, watch videos, or mirror your Samsung TV.
- SmartThings Hub — The Bespoke AI Family Hub can function as a built-in SmartThings hub, allowing you to control other smart home devices directly from the refrigerator screen without needing a separate hub.
- Voice Control — Use Bixby voice commands directly on the display, or link to Alexa or Google Assistant.
Step 5: Configure Notifications and Monitoring
- In the SmartThings app, select your refrigerator and review the available settings.
- Enable door open alerts to receive a notification if the refrigerator door is left open for more than a set period.
- Set temperature alerts to be notified if the internal temperature rises above safe levels.
- Enable water filter replacement reminders to stay on top of filter maintenance.
- Configure energy monitoring to track the refrigerator's power consumption over time.
Tips for Best Performance
- The Family Hub display functions like a tablet. Keep the software updated for new features and security patches. Updates are delivered over WiFi.
- The internal cameras work best when the shelves are not overly cluttered. Organizing items allows the AI to more accurately identify food.
- No separate SmartThings Hub is required — the refrigerator connects directly via WiFi and can also serve as a SmartThings hub for Zigbee and Z-Wave devices.
- If the WiFi connection drops, the refrigerator continues to operate normally. Only smart features and the display's internet-connected apps are affected.
- For the best touchscreen responsiveness, periodically clean the display with a soft, damp microfiber cloth.
