What's in the Box

Your LG Smart Top Control Dishwasher includes the dishwasher unit, upper and lower dish racks, a silverware basket, a water supply line (model-dependent), drain hose, mounting brackets, power cord or junction box connector, and installation hardware. A sample packet of dishwasher detergent may also be included. Review all components against the parts list in the installation guide before proceeding. If your model features a third rack for utensils, it will already be installed inside the tub.

Prerequisites

Dishwasher installation requires a hot water supply line with a shut-off valve under the kitchen sink, a drain connection to your sink's drain or garbage disposal, and either a grounded 120V electrical outlet or a hardwired junction box connection depending on your model and local code. You'll need an adjustable wrench, pliers, a Phillips screwdriver, and possibly a drill for the mounting brackets. Clear out the space under the counter and ensure the opening is standard width (approximately 24 inches). Download the LG ThinQ app before setup.

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Lay the dishwasher on its back or side to access the underside. Connect the water supply line to the inlet valve at the bottom of the unit. Connect the electrical supply, either by plugging into an outlet or wiring to the junction box per the installation guide and local electrical codes.
  2. Thread the drain hose and water supply line through the cabinet opening from the dishwasher space to under the sink.
  3. Slide the dishwasher into the cabinet opening carefully, feeding the hoses and power cord through as you go. Be careful not to kink the drain hose.
  4. Level the dishwasher using the front and rear adjustable legs. The dishwasher should be snug against the underside of the counter. Most models also have a height adjustment mechanism at the top.
  5. Secure the dishwasher to the underside of the countertop or side cabinets using the mounting brackets and included screws.
  6. Under the sink, connect the water supply line to the hot water shut-off valve. Connect the drain hose to the sink drain or garbage disposal. If connecting to a disposal, remove the knockout plug inside the disposal's dishwasher inlet first.
  7. Create a high loop with the drain hose by securing it as high as possible under the countertop. This prevents dirty water from flowing back into the dishwasher.
  8. Turn on the hot water supply and check all connections for leaks.
  9. Run an empty cycle on the hottest setting to flush the interior and verify everything works properly.

Pairing with the LG ThinQ App

Open the LG ThinQ app and tap "+" to add a new appliance. Select "Dishwasher" from the list. On the dishwasher's top control panel, open the door slightly to access the buttons and press and hold the WiFi button for three seconds until the WiFi indicator flashes. Select your 2.4GHz WiFi network in the app and enter your password. Once connected, you can start cycles remotely, monitor remaining time, receive cycle completion alerts, and download additional wash programs optimized for specific dish types.

Smart Home Integration Tips

Link your LG ThinQ account with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to use voice commands like "Hey Google, start the dishwasher" or check cycle status hands-free. The ThinQ app offers a Download Cycle feature that adds specialized wash programs to your dishwasher, such as cycles optimized for baby bottles or heavily soiled pots. Enable push notifications so you know exactly when your dishes are done. For energy savings, use the ThinQ app's delayed start to run the dishwasher during off-peak electricity hours, typically late evening or early morning.

Quick Troubleshooting

If the dishwasher won't drain, check that the drain hose isn't kinked and that the garbage disposal knockout plug was removed during installation. If dishes aren't getting clean, ensure you're using the correct amount of detergent and that the spray arms can rotate freely without being blocked by tall dishes. If the unit won't connect to WiFi, confirm your network is 2.4GHz and try power-cycling the dishwasher at the circuit breaker for 30 seconds. For error codes, use the ThinQ app's Smart Diagnosis feature, which transmits diagnostic data through the dishwasher's speaker to help identify the problem.
