What You Will Need
- Samsung StormWash Smart Dishwasher (installed, connected to water supply and power)
- SmartThings app (iOS or Android) with a Samsung account
- A 2.4 GHz WiFi network
- Your WiFi network name (SSID) and password
Step 1: Verify Physical Installation
Before setting up smart features, confirm the dishwasher is properly installed:
- The water supply line is connected and the valve is open.
- The drain hose is correctly connected to the sink drain or garbage disposal with a high loop or air gap to prevent backflow.
- The dishwasher is level and secured under the countertop.
- The power supply is connected (either hardwired or plugged into a grounded outlet).
- Run a quick rinse cycle to verify the dishwasher fills, sprays, and drains correctly.
Step 2: Connect the Dishwasher to WiFi
- Power on the dishwasher by pressing the Power button.
- Look for the Smart Control or WiFi indicator on the control panel.
- Press and hold the Smart Control button for about three seconds until the WiFi indicator begins blinking. This puts the dishwasher into WiFi pairing mode.
- The indicator will blink for several minutes while waiting for a connection from the SmartThings app.
Step 3: Add the Dishwasher in the SmartThings App
- Open the SmartThings app and tap the + icon, then select Add Device.
- Tap Samsung, then select Dishwasher.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. The app may ask you to connect your phone temporarily to the dishwasher's WiFi hotspot during setup.
- Select your home 2.4 GHz WiFi network and enter your password.
- Wait for the dishwasher to connect. The WiFi indicator on the control panel will turn solid when connected successfully.
- Name the dishwasher (e.g., "Kitchen Dishwasher") and assign it to a room.
Step 4: Explore Smart Features
The Samsung StormWash Smart Dishwasher offers the following capabilities through the SmartThings app:
- Cycle Monitoring — Check the current wash cycle status, remaining time, and progress remotely.
- End-of-Cycle Alerts — Receive a notification when the dishwasher finishes so you can unload it promptly.
- Remote Start — Start a wash cycle from your phone after loading the dishwasher and enabling remote start on the control panel.
- Cycle Selection — Choose wash cycles and options from the app, including Normal, Heavy, Delicate, and Express cycles.
- Troubleshooting and Diagnostics — The app can read error codes from the dishwasher and provide step-by-step troubleshooting guidance.
Step 5: Set Up Notifications
- In the SmartThings app, select your dishwasher.
- Tap the Settings or Notifications option.
- Enable end-of-cycle notifications to receive a push alert when the wash is done.
- Optionally set up notifications for error conditions, such as a drainage issue or water supply problem.
Tips for Best Performance
- The dishwasher connects directly via WiFi and does not require a SmartThings Hub.
- If the WiFi connection drops, the dishwasher operates normally as a standard appliance. Smart features resume automatically when the connection is restored.
- Remote start requires you to first load the dishwasher, add detergent, and press the Remote Start button on the control panel before starting from the app.
- Samsung smart appliances work with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Bixby for voice-controlled status checks.
- If the dishwasher will not connect, verify you are using a 2.4 GHz WiFi network and that the dishwasher is within range of your router. Many kitchen appliances have weaker WiFi antennas due to their metal enclosures.
