The Aeotec Smart Switch 7 is a Z-Wave Plus outlet plug that provides on/off control and energy monitoring. This guide addresses switching and reporting issues.

Switch Not Joining Z-Wave Network

Symptoms

  • LED indicator not responding
  • Hub can't find device
  • Pairing times out

Solutions

  1. Exclude first - Put hub in exclusion mode and press the action button twice to clear previous pairing.
  2. Factory reset - Hold action button for 20 seconds until LED flashes red, then try pairing.
  3. Position near hub - During pairing, plug the switch into an outlet within 6 feet of your controller.
  4. Tap action button - Press the action button twice quickly to enter inclusion mode.
  5. S2 security - Accept S2 security prompt during pairing for encrypted communication.

Switch Not Responding to Commands

Symptoms

  • Commands sent but switch doesn't toggle
  • Delayed response
  • Intermittent control

Solutions

  1. Check Z-Wave mesh - Ensure other Z-Wave devices create a path from hub to switch.
  2. Run network repair - Use your hub's Z-Wave network heal/repair function to optimize routing.
  3. Check polling - Some hubs poll devices periodically. Verify polling is enabled for this device.
  4. Re-pair closer - If range is an issue, remove and re-add the switch in a better location.

Energy Monitoring Not Working

Symptoms

  • Power consumption shows 0W
  • Energy data not updating
  • kWh values incorrect

Solutions

  1. Enable reporting - Parameter 101 controls what data is reported. Enable power and energy reporting.
  2. Set report interval - Parameter 111 sets the interval (in seconds). Decrease for more frequent updates.
  3. Check minimum threshold - Very low power loads may not register. Test with a higher-draw device.
  4. Hub configuration - Ensure your hub is configured to receive and display energy data from Z-Wave devices.

LED Indicator Issues

Symptoms

  • LED always on/off regardless of state
  • LED behavior inconsistent

Solutions

  1. Configure LED mode - Parameter 81 controls LED behavior: 0=follow load, 1=momentary, 2=night light mode.
  2. Check parameter 82 - Controls LED brightness (0-100%). Set to preferred level.
  3. Reset parameters - Factory reset restores default LED settings.
