Receptacle Not Joining Network
Symptoms
- Hub can't find receptacle
- Pairing times out
- LED not indicating status
Solutions
- Exclude first - Put hub in exclusion mode and press the button to clear previous pairing.
- Factory reset - Press and hold button for 10 seconds until LED blinks red.
- Verify power - Check breaker is on and receptacle has power.
- Include mode - Press button quickly 3 times to enter inclusion mode.
- Distance - During pairing, be within 6 feet of your Z-Wave controller.
Outlets Not Responding
Symptoms
- Commands sent but outlet doesn't switch
- One outlet works, other doesn't
- Delayed response
Solutions
- Check configuration - Some models have one always-on outlet. Verify model capabilities.
- Z-Wave mesh - Ensure adequate Z-Wave devices between hub and receptacle for signal routing.
- Network repair - Run Z-Wave network heal/repair to optimize routes.
- Re-pair device - Exclude and re-include if routing issues persist.
Installation Issues
Symptoms
- Receptacle has no power
- GFCI trips when installed
- Wiring confusion
Solutions
- Identify wires - Hot (black), Neutral (white), Ground (green/bare) must be correctly connected.
- Load vs Line - For daisy-chain setups, identify which wires are line (power) vs load (downstream).
- GFCI compatibility - Z-Wave receptacles may have ground issues with some GFCI circuits.
- Professional install - If unsure about wiring, hire a licensed electrician.
Status Reporting
Symptoms
- Hub shows wrong state
- Local toggle not updating hub
- Energy monitoring not available
Solutions

- Association groups - Check Z-Wave association groups are configured for lifeline reporting.
