GE offers smart outlets and switches under the Enbrighten (Z-Wave, Zigbee) and Cync (WiFi) brands. This guide covers common issues across these product lines.

Common Symptoms

  • Outlet/switch not responding to commands
  • Device showing offline
  • Physical button not working
  • Connected device not receiving power
  • LED indicator not lighting

GE Cync (WiFi) Troubleshooting

Initial Setup

  1. Download GE Cync app
  2. Create account or sign in
  3. Tap + to add device
  4. Put outlet in pairing mode (hold button until LED flashes)
  5. Follow app prompts for WiFi setup

WiFi Issues

  • Cync devices require 2.4GHz WiFi
  • Check signal strength at outlet location
  • Move router closer or add WiFi extender
  • Verify password hasn't changed

Offline Device

  1. Check outlet is receiving power
  2. Unplug outlet, wait 10 seconds, replug
  3. Check app for reconnection
  4. If still offline, remove and re-add to app

GE Enbrighten Z-Wave Troubleshooting

Adding to Z-Wave Hub

  1. Put hub in inclusion mode
  2. Press outlet button once to add
  3. Wait for hub to discover device
  4. Configure in hub interface

Device Not Responding

  • Check Z-Wave hub is online
  • Verify outlet is included in hub
  • Try commanding from physical button
  • Run Z-Wave network repair

Z-Wave Exclusion

Before re-adding unresponsive device:

  1. Put hub in exclusion mode
  2. Press outlet button
  3. Device will be removed from network
  4. Re-include as new device

GE Enbrighten Zigbee Troubleshooting

Adding to Zigbee Hub

  1. Put Zigbee hub in pairing mode
  2. Press outlet button to start pairing
  3. LED will indicate pairing status
  4. Hub should discover within 60 seconds

Zigbee Network Issues

  • Check Zigbee coordinator is online
  • Add Zigbee repeaters to extend mesh
  • Avoid placing near WiFi router (interference)
  • Rebuild Zigbee network if needed

In-Wall Switch Issues

No Power to Light

  • Verify circuit breaker isn't tripped
  • Check wiring connections at switch
  • Confirm neutral wire is connected (most require)
  • Test with known-working bulb

LED Status

  • Blue LED: Normal operation
  • Green LED: Z-Wave communication
  • No LED: Check power and settings

Physical Button Not Working

  • Button may be locked via smart home
  • Check for button lock setting in app/hub
  • Verify outlet isn't in a stuck state
  • Power cycle the device

Voice Control

Cync with Alexa/Google

  1. Link Cync account in voice assistant app
  2. Discover devices
  3. Rename for easy voice commands

Enbrighten via Hub

  • Control through hub's voice integration
  • SmartThings, Hubitat, etc. support Alexa/Google
  • Rename devices in hub for voice control

Dimmer Specific

For Enbrighten dimmer switches:

  • Verify bulbs are dimmable (LED-compatible)
  • Set minimum dim level if LEDs flicker at low
  • Check wattage doesn't exceed switch rating

Factory Reset

Cync Outlets

  1. Hold button 10+ seconds
  2. LED will flash rapidly
  3. Remove from app and re-add

Enbrighten Z-Wave/Zigbee

  1. Exclude from hub first
  2. Press button 10 times quickly
  3. LED confirms reset
  4. Re-include to hub

When to Contact Support

Contact GE Lighting support if:

  • Outlet overheats during use
  • Burning smell or visible damage
  • Won't respond to physical button after reset
  • Wiring issues suspected
