Geeni smart plugs offer affordable WiFi-connected outlet control with voice assistant integration. This guide covers common connectivity and control issues.

Plug Not Connecting During Setup

Symptoms

  • LED blinks but won't connect
  • App can't find device
  • Setup times out

Solutions

  1. Use Geeni app - Download official Geeni app for setup.
  2. 2.4GHz network - Geeni plugs only support 2.4GHz WiFi.
  3. Pairing mode - Hold button for 5 seconds until LED blinks rapidly (fast blink = pairing).
  4. Slow blink mode - If slow blink, hold 10 seconds until fast blink for AP mode.
  5. Location permission - Enable location access for Geeni app during setup.

Plug Shows Offline

Symptoms

  • Was working, now offline
  • Can't control remotely
  • Shows disconnected in app

Solutions

  1. Check power - Verify plug is powered and LED is lit.
  2. WiFi changes - If you changed WiFi password, reset and reconnect plug.
  3. Router restart - Restart your router, then give plug time to reconnect.
  4. Re-add device - Remove from app and set up again if persistently offline.

Button and Local Control

Symptoms

  • Button press doesn't toggle
  • LED doesn't indicate status

Solutions

  1. Test button - Press button once to toggle outlet manually.
  2. LED status - LED shows power state: on when outlet is on, off when off.
  3. Stuck button - Check if button is physically stuck or debris is blocking it.
  4. Factory reset - If button unresponsive, hold for 10 seconds for reset.

Voice Control

Symptoms

  • Alexa/Google won't find plug
  • Voice commands don't work
  • Integration stopped working

Solutions

  1. Link Geeni account - Enable Geeni skill in Alexa or link in Google Home.
  2. Discover devices - After linking, say "Alexa, discover my devices."
  3. Use clear name - Rename plug to something easy to say like "Desk Lamp."
  4. Re-link if needed - Unlink and re-link account if discovery fails.

Scheduling and Timers

Symptoms

  • Schedule doesn't run
  • Timer not working
  • Wrong time zone

Solutions

  1. Check schedule - Verify schedule is enabled and times are correct in Geeni app.
  2. Time zone - Confirm correct time zone in app settings.
  3. Internet required - Cloud-based schedules need internet connection.
  4. Countdown timer - Set countdown timer for temporary on/off control.
