Problem Description

Your Ring Indoor Cam is showing as offline in the Ring app, failing to record motion events, or not sending notifications when motion is detected. Live View may not work or shows a spinning circle.

Common Causes

  • WiFi connectivity issues or weak signal
  • Motion detection zones or sensitivity misconfigured
  • Ring app notifications disabled
  • Modes settings preventing recording
  • Ring Protect plan expired (for cloud recording)
  • Camera firmware needs updating

Solutions

1. Check WiFi Signal Strength

  1. Open the Ring app and select your Indoor Cam
  2. Tap Device Health
  3. Check the RSSI signal strength (should be above -60)
  4. If signal is weak, move the camera closer to router or add a WiFi extender

2. Power Cycle the Camera

  1. Unplug the camera from power
  2. Wait 30 seconds
  3. Plug it back in
  4. Wait 2-3 minutes for it to reconnect (LED will turn solid blue)

3. Check Motion Detection Settings

  1. Open Ring app and select your camera
  2. Tap Motion Settings
  3. Ensure Motion Detection is turned ON
  4. Check Motion Zones are configured to cover the area you want monitored
  5. Adjust Motion Sensitivity slider if needed (higher = more sensitive)

4. Check Mode Settings

  1. In the Ring app, tap the menu (three lines)
  2. Go to Devices > Location Settings > Modes
  3. Check each mode (Home, Away, Disarmed) to ensure your camera is set to record
  4. Make sure you're not in Disarmed mode if you want recording

5. Verify Ring Protect Subscription

Cloud video recording requires an active Ring Protect plan. Without it, you'll only see Live View. Check your subscription status in Ring app under Account > Subscriptions.

6. Reconnect to WiFi

  1. Open Ring app and select your camera
  2. Tap Device Health > Change WiFi Network
  3. Follow the prompts to reconnect to your network
  4. Ensure you select a 2.4GHz network for best compatibility

7. Factory Reset

If nothing works, perform a factory reset:

  1. Press and hold the setup button (orange) for 20 seconds
  2. Release when the light starts flashing
  3. Set up the camera again through the Ring app

When to Contact Support

Contact Ring Support if the camera won't reconnect after reset, Device Health shows persistent errors, or hardware appears damaged.
