Smart power strips provide individual outlet control and often surge protection. This guide covers connectivity issues.

Strip Not Connecting to WiFi

  1. Most smart strips require 2.4GHz WiFi
  2. Hold button until LED flashes rapidly
  3. Use manufacturer's app for setup
  4. Smart Life/Tuya app for many generic strips
  5. Keep phone near strip during setup

Individual Outlets Not Responding

  1. Check outlet isn't in "always on" mode
  2. Some strips have dedicated always-on outlets
  3. Verify outlet is enabled in app
  4. Physical button may override app control
  5. Check USB ports are separately controlled

USB Ports Issues

  1. USB ports may not be smart-controlled
  2. Check max amperage for USB devices
  3. Some strips have fast-charging USB ports
  4. USB control depends on model features

Energy Monitoring Not Showing

  1. Not all strips have power monitoring
  2. Monitoring may be per-strip not per-outlet
  3. Check app shows kWh or wattage readings
  4. Values update periodically not real-time
  5. Historical data may require subscription

Voice Control Setup

  1. Link manufacturer account in Alexa/Google
  2. Each outlet appears as separate device
  3. Rename outlets for easy voice control
  4. "Turn off outlet 1" or custom names
  5. Group outlets in rooms for bulk control

Home Assistant Local Control

  1. Tuya Local integration for Tuya-based strips
  2. LocalTuya HACS integration for local API
  3. May need to flash with custom firmware
  4. ESPHome possible for ESP-based strips
  5. Check device uses ESP chip before flashing
