The IKEA TRADFRI LED Bulb E26 Thread represents IKEA's transition to Thread protocol for smart lighting. Unlike Zigbee-based TRADFRI bulbs, this version connects directly to Thread networks, providing improved reliability, lower latency, and better mesh networking capabilities. The E26 base fits standard North American light fixtures.

Thread protocol enables direct communication with Thread Border Routers including Apple HomePod, Apple TV, and the DIRIGERA hub (with Thread enabled). This native Thread support means the bulb can participate in Matter ecosystems without requiring a bridge, though it still benefits from hub coordination for advanced features. The mesh networking automatically routes signals through the most efficient path.

The bulb is controllable through the IKEA Home smart app when connected to DIRIGERA, or through any Matter-compatible platform. Dimming and color temperature adjustment (if white spectrum model) work seamlessly with voice assistants and automation platforms. The Thread mesh network improves range coverage compared to point-to-point connections, and the bulb acts as a router node to strengthen the network for other Thread devices.
