The Philips Hue Tap Dial Switch is the most feature-packed smart lighting controller Philips Hue has ever produced, combining four programmable buttons with a rotary dial for intuitive control over your smart lights. Each of the four buttons can be programmed to control lights in up to three different rooms or zones, with support for both press and press-and-hold actions that can trigger different commands. The smooth-turning dial allows you to dim and brighten lights by rotation - turn slowly for fine adjustments or quickly for dramatic changes.

The switch offers exceptional versatility in placement and use. It connects magnetically to a wall-mountable base plate that can be attached using adhesive strips or screws, functioning like a traditional light switch. Remove the dial from the wall plate to use it as a handheld remote control, or stick it on any magnetic surface. The battery-powered design ensures reliable operation, and at approximately 3.2 inches wide by 4.9 inches high by 1 inch deep, it is substantial enough to use comfortably while remaining compact.

The Tap Dial Switch communicates via Zigbee and requires a Hue Bridge for operation. It works with Home Assistant through Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA integrations, where it supports advanced features like multi-press actions through automation code. However, it is important to note that while the button portion supports Matter through the Hue Bridge, the dial functionality does not support Matter and is limited to the Hue ecosystem.
