The Nest Protect (Wired) is Google's hardwired WiFi-connected smoke and carbon monoxide detector with battery backup, designed for homes with existing smoke detector wiring. This version connects to your home's 120VAC power with backup batteries ensuring operation during outages. The Split-Spectrum Sensor detects both fast-burning and slow-smoldering fires.

Hardwired installation provides continuous power without battery replacement concerns, though the backup batteries should be checked periodically. The detector interconnects with other Nest Protects wirelessly for whole-home alerting. Voice alerts announce danger type and location clearly. Pathlight provides gentle illumination when you walk beneath at night.

The Google Home app delivers emergency and heads-up alerts to your phone, battery backup status, and safety checkup verification of all sensors. Multiple detectors can be grouped by room for organized management. Steam Check reduces kitchen and bathroom false alarms. Note that Apple HomeKit integration requires third-party bridges; native support is limited to Google Home. The 10-year replacement requirement applies per safety certifications.
