Philips Hue Bridge

The Philips Hue Bridge is the central hub of the Philips Hue ecosystem, serving as the intelligent connection point between your Hue smart lights and your home network. This compact device uses the Zigbee Light Link protocol based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard to communicate with Hue bulbs and accessories, while connecting to your router via Ethernet to enable smartphone control, automation, and third-party integrations.

The Bridge supports up to 50 Philips Hue lights and accessories, extending control range up to 4,000 square feet compared to the limited 30-foot Bluetooth range of standalone bulbs. It unlocks advanced features including geofencing, scheduling, light routines, away-from-home control, and integration with motion sensors and dimmer switches. The Bridge has received firmware updates over the years to support Zigbee 3.0 for broader third-party device compatibility.

With the Hue Bridge, users gain access to the full suite of Philips Hue smart home features, including voice control through major assistants, IFTTT automation, and integration with entertainment systems like Spotify, Razer, and Corsair. The Bridge also serves as a Matter controller, making all connected Hue devices Matter-compatible for seamless integration with other Matter-enabled smart home products.
