What You Will Need

  • Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro (WiFi model)
  • Aqara Home app (iOS or Android)
  • 2.4 GHz WiFi network (5 GHz also supported on this model)
  • USB-C power adapter (included)
  • MicroSD card (up to 512 GB, for local recording — sold separately)
  • Optional: Aqara Zigbee accessories to pair directly with the camera hub

Step 1: Choose a Mounting Location

The Camera Hub G5 Pro can be placed on a flat surface like a shelf or table, or mounted to a wall or ceiling using the included magnetic mount. Choose a location that gives a clear view of the area you want to monitor. For indoor use, position the camera at a height of about 6 to 8 feet for optimal coverage. Ensure the camera is within range of your WiFi router for a strong signal.

Step 2: Insert a MicroSD Card (Optional)

If you want local video storage, insert a microSD card into the slot on the back of the camera before powering it on. The camera supports cards up to 512 GB. Local recording keeps your footage private and does not require a cloud subscription. Format the card through the Aqara Home app after setup if prompted.

Step 3: Power On the Camera

  1. Connect the included USB-C cable to the port on the back of the camera.
  2. Plug the other end into the included power adapter and connect it to a wall outlet.
  3. Wait for the camera's status indicator to begin blinking, indicating it is ready for pairing.

Step 4: Add the Camera to Aqara Home

  1. Open the Aqara Home app on your phone.
  2. Tap the + icon in the top-right corner and select Add Accessory.
  3. Select Camera Hub G5 Pro from the device list, or scan the QR code on the bottom of the camera.
  4. The app will prompt you to connect the camera to your WiFi network. Enter your network name and password. The WiFi model supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
  5. Wait for the camera to connect. You will hear a voice prompt confirming successful pairing.
  6. Assign the camera to a room and give it a descriptive name such as "Living Room Camera."

Step 5: Configure Camera Settings

After pairing, open the camera's device page in the Aqara Home app. From here you can adjust several important settings:

  • Video Quality — Choose between 2K or lower resolutions depending on your bandwidth.
  • Night Vision — Enable auto or always-on infrared for clear footage in the dark.
  • Motion Detection — Set detection sensitivity and define activity zones to reduce false alerts.
  • Privacy Mode — Enable this to physically rotate the lens away when you are home.
  • Recording Mode — Select continuous recording, event-only recording, or scheduled recording to the microSD card.

Step 6: Use the Built-In Zigbee Hub

The Camera Hub G5 Pro doubles as a Zigbee 3.0 hub, so you can pair Aqara sensors and accessories directly to it without needing a separate Hub M2 or M3. To add Zigbee devices, go to the camera's settings in the app, select Child Devices, and follow the pairing instructions for each sensor. This is ideal for placing motion sensors, door sensors, or temperature sensors in the same area as the camera.

Step 7: Expose to Smart Home Platforms

The Camera Hub G5 Pro supports Apple HomeKit Secure Video, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa. For HomeKit Secure Video, the camera will appear automatically in Apple Home after pairing in Aqara Home. This enables end-to-end encrypted cloud recording through iCloud. For Google Home and Alexa, link your Aqara account in the respective apps.

Tips

  • Position the camera away from windows to avoid glare and false motion alerts from outdoor movement.
  • If using HomeKit Secure Video, you need an iCloud+ plan with at least 50 GB of storage.
  • The on-device AI can recognize people, pets, and packages — enable these in the detection settings for smarter notifications.
  • Update the camera firmware regularly through the Aqara Home app for the latest features and security patches.
