What You Will Need
- Aqara Thermostat Hub W200
- Aqara Home app (iOS or Android)
- 2.4 GHz WiFi network
- Screwdriver (Phillips head)
- Wire labels or masking tape and a pen (for labeling existing wires)
- Compatible HVAC system (supports most 24V systems with C-wire)
Step 1: Check HVAC Compatibility
The Aqara Thermostat Hub W200 works with most standard 24V HVAC systems, including forced air, heat pumps, and radiant heating. It requires a C-wire (common wire) for power. Before removing your existing thermostat, open its cover and verify you have at least the following wires: R (power), W (heat), Y (cooling), G (fan), and C (common). If you do not have a C-wire, you may need to run one or use an add-a-wire adapter kit. Consult an HVAC technician if you are unsure about your wiring.
Step 2: Turn Off HVAC Power
Go to your home's electrical panel or furnace and switch off the breaker that powers your HVAC system. This is a critical safety step. Confirm the system is off by checking that your existing thermostat display is blank or unresponsive.
Step 3: Remove Your Old Thermostat
- Remove the faceplate from your existing thermostat.
- Take a photo of the wiring for reference before disconnecting anything.
- Label each wire with its terminal letter (R, W, Y, G, C, etc.) using tape or wire labels.
- Disconnect each wire from its terminal.
- Remove the old mounting plate from the wall. Fill any mismatched screw holes with spackle if needed.
Step 4: Mount the W200 Base Plate
- Hold the Aqara W200 base plate against the wall and use a level to ensure it is straight.
- Thread the labeled wires through the opening in the base plate.
- Mark the screw hole locations with a pencil.
- Drill pilot holes if mounting on drywall, and insert the included wall anchors.
- Secure the base plate to the wall with the included screws.
Step 5: Connect the Wires
- Connect each labeled wire to its matching terminal on the W200 base plate. The terminals are clearly marked (R, C, W, Y, G, and others depending on your system).
- Push each wire firmly into the terminal connector until it clicks. Give each wire a gentle tug to confirm it is secure.
- If you have a heat pump, connect the O/B wire to the designated terminal.
- Double-check all connections against your reference photo.
Step 6: Attach the Thermostat and Power On
- Snap the W200 display unit onto the base plate. It connects magnetically and should seat flush against the wall.
- Go back to your electrical panel and restore power to the HVAC system.
- The thermostat screen will light up and begin the initial setup process.
Step 7: Set Up in Aqara Home
- Open the Aqara Home app and tap the + icon to add a new device.
- Select Thermostat Hub W200 from the device list.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the thermostat to your 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
- The app will guide you through configuring your HVAC system type (conventional, heat pump, etc.) and setting your preferred temperature units.
- Set your initial heating and cooling set points.
Step 8: Configure Schedules and the Zigbee Hub
The W200 includes a built-in Zigbee 3.0 hub, so it can serve as the central hub for your Aqara Zigbee accessories. Pair temperature sensors in other rooms to enable multi-room climate monitoring. Set up weekly heating and cooling schedules in the app to save energy. The thermostat also supports Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa for voice control — link your Aqara account in the respective platform to get started.
Tips
- Place Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensors in frequently used rooms and create automations to balance temperatures throughout your home.
- Enable the W200's built-in occupancy sensing or pair it with an Aqara Presence Sensor for automatic away-mode adjustments.
- If your HVAC system does not respond correctly after installation, verify that the system type is configured correctly in the app settings.
- Update the firmware through the Aqara Home app after installation for the latest features.
