What You Will Need
- Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen)
- Smartphone with the Alexa app installed
- Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz or 5GHz)
- Power adapter (included)
- An Amazon account
- At least 10 inches of clearance on all sides for the rotating display
Step 1: Choose the Right Location
The Echo Show 10 has a motorized base that rotates the 10.1-inch HD screen to follow you as you move around the room. Proper placement is essential.
- Choose a flat, stable surface such as a kitchen counter or side table. The device weighs about 5.6 pounds, so ensure the surface can support it.
- Leave at least 10 inches of clearance on all sides so the display can rotate a full 175 degrees without hitting anything.
- Keep the device away from the edge of counters or tables, as the rotating motion could cause items nearby to fall.
- Position the device at roughly chest or eye height for the best camera angle during video calls.
Step 2: Power On the Device
- Plug the included power adapter into the port on the back of the base and connect it to a wall outlet.
- The display will light up with the Amazon logo and the motorized screen will center itself during the boot sequence.
- Wait about 45 seconds for the device to fully start up and display the setup wizard.
Step 3: Complete the On-Screen Setup
- Select your language.
- Connect to your Wi-Fi network by selecting it from the list and entering your password. The Echo Show 10 supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
- Sign in to your Amazon account. You can type your credentials on the touchscreen or use the code displayed at amazon.com/code on another device.
- Confirm your time zone and location for accurate weather, news, and local results.
- The device will download any available software updates and may restart once during this process.
Step 4: Configure Motion Tracking
The signature feature of the Echo Show 10 is its ability to rotate and follow you. You can customize this behavior to suit your preferences.
- During setup, the device will ask if you want to enable motion tracking. Tap Enable to allow the screen to follow you, or disable it if you prefer the display to remain stationary.
- To adjust later, swipe down from the top of the screen, tap Settings > Motion.
- Under Motion settings, you can toggle motion tracking for the display and motion tracking for the camera independently.
- You can also set motion preferences by time so the screen stays still during nighttime hours.
Step 5: Set Up the Camera
- The Echo Show 10 features a 13 MP camera with auto-framing. The combination of digital zoom and the rotating display ensures you stay centered during video calls even as you walk around the room.
- To use Home Monitoring, open the Alexa app and go to Devices > Cameras. Enable the feature to view a live feed from the Echo Show 10 while you are away. The rotating base lets you remotely pan the camera to see more of the room.
- Use the physical camera shutter on top of the device to cover the lens when privacy is needed.
Step 6: Connect Smart Home Devices
- The Echo Show 10 includes a built-in Zigbee smart home hub, allowing you to connect compatible Zigbee devices without a separate bridge.
- To add Zigbee devices, open the Alexa app, tap Devices > + > Add Device, and select the device type. Put your Zigbee device into pairing mode and the Echo Show 10 will discover it automatically.
- Once devices are connected, you can control them from the touchscreen by swiping left to access the smart home dashboard.
Tips
- The dual front-firing speakers and woofer deliver excellent sound. Place the device against a wall to amplify bass.
- Say "Alexa, follow me" to enable motion tracking temporarily, or "Alexa, stop moving" to pause it.
- For the best video call experience, position the device so that natural light comes from in front of you, not behind you.
- The rotating display is especially useful in kitchens. Say "Alexa, show me a recipe for pasta" and the screen will follow you as you cook.
