What You Will Need

  • Amazon Echo Spot (2024)
  • Smartphone with the Alexa app installed
  • Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz or 5GHz)
  • Power adapter (included)
  • An Amazon account

Step 1: Unbox and Power On

  1. Remove the Echo Spot from its packaging along with the included power adapter.
  2. The Echo Spot (2024) is a compact smart alarm clock with a small customizable display and a front-facing speaker. It is designed primarily as a bedside companion.
  3. Place the device on your nightstand or desk where you can easily see the display and reach the top controls.
  4. Plug the power adapter into the port on the back and connect it to a wall outlet.
  5. The display will light up and the device will begin its startup sequence.

Step 2: On-Screen Setup

  1. The small touchscreen will display the setup wizard. Select your language.
  2. Connect to your Wi-Fi network. The Echo Spot supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
  3. Sign in to your Amazon account by entering your credentials on the touchscreen or using the amazon.com/code method on another device.
  4. Confirm your time zone and location for accurate clock display, weather, and alarms.
  5. The device will check for and install software updates if available.

Step 3: Customize the Clock Face

The Echo Spot (2024) features a vibrant display optimized for showing the time, weather, and album art.

  1. Swipe left or right on the display to browse available clock face designs. Options range from analog to digital styles in various color themes.
  2. Tap a clock face to select it. You can also access clock face settings by swiping down from the top and tapping Settings > Home & Clock > Clock Face.
  3. Some clock faces display additional information such as the current outdoor temperature or the date alongside the time.
  4. Adjust the display color theme to match your room decor. Multiple color palettes are available in the clock face settings.

Step 4: Set Up Alarms

  1. Say "Alexa, set an alarm for 7 AM" to create your first alarm.
  2. To set a recurring alarm, say "Alexa, set a repeating alarm for 7 AM on weekdays."
  3. Customize your alarm tone by saying "Alexa, change my alarm sound." Options include celebrity voices, music, gentle tones, and nature sounds.
  4. To snooze an alarm, tap the display or say "Alexa, snooze." The default snooze duration is 9 minutes.
  5. The alarm time and status are visible on the clock face display so you can confirm your alarm is set before going to sleep.

Step 5: Configure Display Brightness and Night Mode

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the brightness slider to adjust manually.
  2. Enable Adaptive Brightness in Settings so the display automatically dims in dark rooms and brightens in daylight.
  3. Set up a Do Not Disturb schedule to mute notifications during sleeping hours. Go to the Alexa app and navigate to Devices > Echo Spot > Do Not Disturb.
  4. The display dims significantly at night so it does not disturb your sleep while still showing the time.

Step 6: Connect Music and Media Services

  1. The Echo Spot has a directional speaker that projects audio toward you, making it well-suited for bedside listening.
  2. Link your preferred music service in the Alexa app under Settings > Music & Podcasts. Options include Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, and iHeartRadio.
  3. When music plays, the display shows album art and track information, adding a visual element to the listening experience.
  4. Say "Alexa, play sleep sounds" to play relaxing ambient audio as you fall asleep.

Step 7: Smart Home Controls

  1. Tap the display to access quick smart home controls for lights, thermostats, and other connected devices.
  2. Create a bedtime routine in the Alexa app that locks the doors, turns off downstairs lights, sets the thermostat, and plays sleep sounds, all triggered by saying "Alexa, good night."
  3. Create a morning routine that gradually turns on lights, reads the weather, and starts your favorite news briefing.

Tips

  • The Echo Spot (2024) does not include a camera, making it a privacy-friendly choice for the bedroom.
  • Use the tap-to-snooze feature by tapping anywhere on the top of the device when an alarm goes off.
  • The compact size makes it easy to travel with. Bring it along on trips for a familiar alarm clock and Alexa assistant in hotel rooms.
  • Pair the Echo Spot with a larger Echo speaker via Bluetooth in the Alexa app if you want louder music playback.
