What You Will Need

  • Amazon Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen)
  • Smartphone with the Alexa app installed
  • Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz or 5GHz)
  • Power adapter (included)
  • An Amazon account

Step 1: Unbox and Power On

  1. Remove the Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen) from its packaging along with the included power adapter.
  2. Place the device on a stable surface where the 8-inch HD touchscreen is easy to see. The updated 3rd Gen model features improved speakers and a faster processor compared to the 2nd Gen.
  3. Plug the power adapter into the port on the back and connect it to a wall outlet.
  4. The screen will display the Amazon logo and boot up in approximately 30 to 45 seconds.

Step 2: On-Screen Setup

  1. Select your language on the touchscreen.
  2. The device will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Tap your network and enter the password.
  3. The Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen) supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands. For video streaming and calls, 5GHz is recommended if you are close to your router.
  4. Sign in to your Amazon account. You can type your credentials on the touchscreen or visit amazon.com/code on another device and enter the code shown on the Echo Show screen.
  5. Confirm your time zone and location for accurate weather, alarms, and local information.

Step 3: Software Update

  1. After initial setup, the device will automatically check for software updates.
  2. If updates are available, the device will download and install them. This may take 5 to 15 minutes.
  3. The device may restart during the update process. Do not unplug it until the update is complete.

Step 4: Set Up the Spatial Audio Feature

The Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen) features spatial audio processing that creates a wider, more immersive soundstage from the dual stereo speakers.

  1. Spatial audio is enabled by default. To verify, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Settings > Sounds > Spatial Audio.
  2. For best results, place the device at least 6 inches from a wall and at ear level. The spatial audio effect is most noticeable during music playback.
  3. Say "Alexa, play music" to test the audio quality with your preferred streaming service.

Step 5: Configure the Camera and Adaptive Content

  1. The 3rd Gen model includes a 13 MP centered camera with auto-framing for video calls. The camera keeps you in the frame as you move.
  2. Slide the physical camera shutter on top of the device to cover the lens for privacy at any time.
  3. The device uses Adaptive Content, which adjusts what is displayed on screen based on your distance from the device. When you are across the room, it shows larger text and widgets. When you are close, it shows more detailed information.
  4. Enable Home Monitoring in the Alexa app under Devices > Cameras to use the device as a security camera remotely.

Step 6: Customize the Home Screen

  1. Swipe left on the home screen to access widgets for smart home controls, music, weather, and more.
  2. Long-press on the home screen to enter edit mode and rearrange or add widgets.
  3. Go to Settings > Home Screen to configure which cards and content rotate on the idle display.
  4. Enable Photo Frame mode to display photos from your Amazon Photos albums when the screen is idle.

Step 7: Connect Smart Home Devices

  1. Open the Alexa app and tap Devices > + > Add Device to connect smart lights, plugs, cameras, and other accessories.
  2. The Echo Show 8 (3rd Gen) supports Matter over Wi-Fi, making it compatible with a broader range of smart home devices from different brands.
  3. Once devices are added, swipe to the smart home widget on the Echo Show screen for quick tap-to-control access.
