What You Will Need

  • Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor
  • Smartphone with the Alexa app installed
  • Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz)
  • USB-A power cable (included) and a USB power adapter or powered USB port
  • An Amazon account with Alexa enabled

Step 1: Unbox and Power On the Monitor

  1. Remove the Smart Air Quality Monitor from its packaging along with the included USB-A cable.
  2. Place the monitor on a flat surface in the room you want to measure. For accurate readings, keep it away from windows, vents, and direct sunlight.
  3. Connect the USB cable to the back of the monitor and plug the other end into a USB power adapter or powered USB port.
  4. The LED light ring on the front will begin pulsing blue, indicating the device is in setup mode.

Step 2: Add the Device in the Alexa App

  1. Open the Alexa app on your smartphone and tap Devices at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap the + icon in the upper right corner and select Add Device.
  3. Choose Amazon as the brand, then select Smart Air Quality Monitor from the list.
  4. The app will search for your device. Make sure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the monitor to use.
  5. When the monitor appears, tap it to begin pairing.

Step 3: Connect to Wi-Fi

  1. The Alexa app will prompt you to select your Wi-Fi network. Choose your 2.4GHz network (the monitor does not support 5GHz).
  2. Enter your Wi-Fi password and tap Connect.
  3. Wait for the monitor to connect. The LED ring will turn solid white briefly, then turn off, indicating a successful connection.

Step 4: Assign to a Room

  1. After connecting, the app will ask you to assign the monitor to a room or group (such as "Living Room" or "Bedroom").
  2. Select an existing room or create a new one. This helps organize your devices and lets you ask Alexa about air quality by room name.

Step 5: Understand Your Air Quality Readings

The Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor tracks five key metrics:

  • Particulate Matter (PM 2.5) - Tiny airborne particles from dust, smoke, and cooking
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) - Gases from cleaning products, paints, and adhesives
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO) - Odorless gas from fuel-burning appliances
  • Temperature - Current room temperature
  • Humidity - Relative humidity percentage

You can view all readings in the Alexa app under Devices by selecting the monitor. An overall Air Quality Score is displayed on a color-coded scale from green (good) to red (poor).

Step 6: Set Up Alexa Routines (Optional)

  1. Open the Alexa app and go to More > Routines.
  2. Tap + to create a new routine. Under When this happens, select Smart Home and choose your Air Quality Monitor.
  3. Set a trigger condition, such as "PM 2.5 rises above Fair."
  4. Under Add action, choose an action like turning on a smart air purifier, sending a notification, or having Alexa make an announcement.
  5. Tap Save to activate the routine.

Tips for Best Results

  • Allow 15 to 30 minutes after powering on for the sensors to calibrate and deliver accurate readings.
  • Position the monitor at table height, roughly three to five feet off the ground, for the most representative air quality data.
  • Avoid placing the monitor in enclosed cabinets or directly next to cooking appliances, which can skew readings.
  • Ask Alexa, "What's my air quality?" at any time for a quick verbal summary.
