What You Will Need

  • Arlo Go 2 camera
  • Activated SIM card (nano SIM or built-in eSIM, depending on model)
  • Rechargeable battery (included)
  • Magnetic mount and screws
  • Smartphone with the Arlo app installed
  • Compatible cellular data plan (LTE)
  • Optional: 2.4 GHz WiFi network for backup connectivity

Step 1: Activate Your Cellular Plan

The Arlo Go 2 is a cellular-enabled camera, meaning it can operate anywhere with LTE coverage, even without WiFi. Before powering on the camera, you need a compatible cellular data plan. If your model uses a physical nano SIM card, insert it into the SIM slot on the camera. If it has a built-in eSIM, you will activate it through the Arlo app during setup. Contact your carrier to confirm LTE coverage in the area where you plan to install the camera.

Step 2: Charge the Battery

Connect the included battery to the magnetic charging cable and charge it fully. The LED will turn solid green when complete, typically after three to four hours. Since the Go 2 uses cellular data which consumes more power than WiFi, starting with a full charge is especially important.

Step 3: Download the Arlo App

Install the Arlo Secure App on your smartphone from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Create a new Arlo account or log in to your existing one. The Arlo Go 2 does not require a SmartHub since it connects via cellular or WiFi directly.

Step 4: Add the Camera in the App

  1. Open the Arlo app and tap Add New Device.
  2. Select Cameras and choose Arlo Go 2.
  3. Insert the charged battery into the camera.
  4. Scan the QR code on the camera body.
  5. The app will detect the SIM card and guide you through activating your cellular plan if you have not already done so.
  6. Optionally, connect the camera to a WiFi network as well. When WiFi is available, the camera will use it instead of cellular to save data.

Wait for the camera LED to turn solid blue, confirming a successful connection.

Step 5: Choose an Installation Location

The Arlo Go 2 is weather-resistant and ideal for locations where WiFi is unavailable, such as remote properties, construction sites, barns, boats, or vacation homes. Check the cellular signal strength in the Arlo app at your desired location before mounting. A signal strength of two bars or more is recommended for reliable video streaming and recording.

Step 6: Mount the Camera

  1. Hold the magnetic mount plate in position and mark screw holes.
  2. Drill pilot holes and insert wall anchors as needed.
  3. Attach the mount plate with screws.
  4. Place the camera on the magnetic mount and adjust the angle using the live view in the Arlo app.

Step 7: Configure Settings for Cellular Use

Since cellular data costs money, it is important to optimize your camera settings to avoid excessive data usage.

  1. Lower the video resolution from the maximum if data usage is a concern.
  2. Set up activity zones to limit motion triggers to important areas only.
  3. Adjust motion sensitivity to reduce false alerts from wind, animals, or shadows.
  4. Use a recording schedule to limit when the camera actively monitors.

Tips for Best Performance

  • The Arlo Go 2 supports dual connectivity, automatically switching between WiFi and LTE as needed.
  • For off-grid installations, pair the camera with the Arlo Solar Panel to eliminate the need for manual battery recharging.
  • Monitor your cellular data usage in the Arlo app and adjust settings if you are approaching your plan limit.
  • The GPS feature can help you track the camera's location, which is useful for portable or temporary installations.
