What You'll Need

  • Bose Home Speaker 300
  • Bose Music app (iOS or Android)
  • Wi-Fi network
  • A Bose account (free to create)

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Download the Bose Music app and sign in or create an account.
  2. Plug in the speaker using the included power cable. The light bar on the front will pulse amber to indicate it is ready for setup.
  3. Open the Bose Music app and tap the "+" icon to add a new product.
  4. Select Home Speaker 300 and follow the setup wizard:
    • The app connects to the speaker via Bluetooth for initial configuration
    • Enter your Wi-Fi network name and password when prompted
  5. Choose your voice assistant. The Home Speaker 300 supports both Alexa and Google Assistant. You pick one during setup but can switch later in the app.
  6. Set up presets. The speaker has six preset buttons on top. Long-press any preset while music is playing to save that station, playlist, or podcast for quick one-touch access later.

Placement and Sound Tips

The Home Speaker 300 uses a single full-range driver with a custom acoustic deflector to project 360-degree sound. It works best on a table, counter, or shelf where sound can radiate outward in all directions. Avoid placing it flush against a wall or in a corner, as the bass can become overpowering.

For a kitchen or bathroom counter, this speaker is a solid fit since its compact size does not take up much space. It sounds noticeably better on a hard surface than on a soft one, so skip the placemat underneath and set it directly on the counter or shelf.

The six presets are one of the most practical features on this speaker. Set them up with your morning news, favorite radio station, workout playlist, and other go-to content. A quick press plays your selection without needing to reach for your phone.

Multi-Room Audio

The Home Speaker 300 works with other Bose smart speakers and soundbars for multi-room audio through the Bose Music app. Create a group and play the same music in your living room and kitchen simultaneously. It also supports AirPlay 2, which means you can group it with other AirPlay-compatible speakers from different brands, including HomePods and Sonos.

Spotify Connect is another option. If you use Spotify, you can cast directly from the Spotify app to the speaker without going through the Bose app.

Smart Home Integration

With either Alexa or Google Assistant built in, the Home Speaker 300 doubles as a smart home controller. Control lights, thermostats, locks, and anything else connected to your Alexa or Google ecosystem. The far-field microphone array does a good job picking up your voice even when music is playing at moderate volume.

Troubleshooting

  • Bluetooth pairing for direct streaming: Press the Bluetooth button on the top of the speaker until the LED blinks blue. Then select the speaker from your phone's Bluetooth settings. Keep in mind that voice assistants only work over Wi-Fi, not Bluetooth.
  • Presets not saving: Make sure the music service you are playing from is linked in the Bose Music app. Presets save the current source, so the service account needs to be connected.
  • Voice assistant not responding: Check that the microphone is not muted (the LED bar turns red when muted). Also verify your Wi-Fi connection is active, since voice features require internet access.
  • Wi-Fi keeps dropping: Move the speaker closer to your router or to a spot with better signal. If your network broadcasts 2.4GHz and 5GHz separately, try connecting to the 2.4GHz band for more reliable range.
  • Factory reset: Press and hold the AUX button and Volume Down button together for about 10 seconds. The light bar will blink amber and the speaker will restart in setup mode.
