What You'll Need

  • GE Cync Smart Switch (Matter version)
  • Neutral wire (required)
  • Single-pole or 3-way circuit
  • Matter-compatible controller
  • Smartphone with Cync app or controller app
  • Screwdriver, wire strippers, voltage tester

Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Turn off power: Switch off circuit breaker. Test with voltage tester.
  2. Remove existing switch: Unscrew and disconnect, noting wire positions.
  3. Identify wires: Find line (hot), load, neutral, and ground wires.
  4. Connect Cync switch:
    • Line → Hot from panel
    • Load → Wire to fixture
    • Neutral → Neutral bundle
    • Ground → Ground wire
  5. For 3-way circuits: Connect traveler wire to designated terminal.
  6. Mount and restore power: Install switch, attach faceplate, turn on breaker.
  7. Enter pairing mode: Press and hold button until LED blinks rapidly.
  8. Add via Matter: Open controller app, scan Matter code, complete setup.
  9. Assign room: Place switch in appropriate room.

Troubleshooting

  • Switch not powering on: Verify all wire connections. Ensure neutral is connected. Check breaker.
  • 3-way not working: Verify traveler wire is connected correctly. Both switches must be compatible or use add-on switch.
  • Pairing issues: Factory reset (hold button 10 seconds). Ensure 2.4GHz Wi-Fi available.
  • LED always on: Some models have always-on locator LED. Check settings for LED control options.
  • Light flickers: Check load wire connection. May indicate incompatible fixture—test with different load.
