What You'll Need
- Denon Home 350
- HEOS app (iOS or Android)
- Wi-Fi network
- A sturdy surface (this is a large, heavy speaker)
Step-by-Step Setup
- Position the speaker on a solid surface. The Denon Home 350 is the flagship of the line and has considerable weight. A media console, sturdy shelf, or credenza works best. Avoid flimsy surfaces.
- Connect the power cable.
- Download or open the HEOS app and sign in to your account.
- Add the speaker:
- Tap "+" or "Add Device" in the HEOS app
- Press and hold the CONNECT button on the back of the speaker until the LED starts blinking
- Follow the setup wizard to completion
- Connect to your Wi-Fi network and enter your credentials.
- Link your music services and configure Quick Select presets.
Placement and Sound Tips
The Home 350 uses six custom drivers to fill large rooms with ease. Place it at about waist to chest height on a solid surface for the best results. This speaker can genuinely serve as the primary music system for a living room or open-plan space.
Give it at least 4 to 6 inches of space behind it. The bass output is substantial, and proximity to a wall can make the low end overpowering. If you notice bass rumble or boominess, pull the speaker further from walls and corners. In a large room, this is less of an issue since the bass has space to disperse.
The speaker fires sound forward and to the sides, creating a wide soundstage. Placing it centered on a wall, aimed toward your seating area, gives the most balanced listening experience. Avoid placing it in a tight shelf or enclosed cabinet where the sound cannot radiate properly.
Inputs and Connectivity
The Home 350 supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, AirPlay 2, and Spotify Connect for wireless streaming. It also has a USB port for playing music files from a USB drive (FAT32 format) and a 3.5mm aux input for external audio sources. Browse USB content and switch inputs through the HEOS app.
For the highest audio quality, use Wi-Fi streaming. The speaker supports hi-res audio up to 24-bit/192kHz, which means it can play lossless content from services like Amazon Music HD, Tidal, and Apple Music without downsampling.
Multi-Room Audio
The Home 350 integrates into the HEOS multi-room platform alongside other Denon Home speakers and HEOS-enabled devices like AV receivers and soundbars. Group speakers in the HEOS app for synchronized playback across rooms.
AirPlay 2 grouping also works, letting you combine the Home 350 with AirPlay speakers from other brands. Spotify Connect lets you cast directly from the Spotify app. All of these methods keep the audio in sync across devices.
Voice Control
Like the other Denon Home speakers, the 350 does not have a built-in microphone. Control it with Alexa through a separate Echo device by enabling the HEOS skill. You can also use Siri with AirPlay 2 from an iPhone, saying something like "Hey Siri, play my playlist on Denon Home 350."
Troubleshooting
- Speaker too heavy for current surface: The Home 350 is one of the heaviest wireless speakers on the market. Make sure your shelf or table can support it without flexing. Flexing surfaces can create vibration and buzz at higher volumes.
- Bass overwhelming the room: Pull the speaker further from walls and corners. Lower the bass in the EQ settings within the HEOS app. In smaller rooms, the Home 350 may produce more bass than necessary at moderate volumes.
- HEOS app setup issues: Keep your phone close to the speaker during initial setup. Press and hold the CONNECT button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes. Make sure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network you want the speaker to join.
- High-res audio stuttering: Streaming 24-bit/192kHz audio demands a solid network connection. If you experience stutters, try the 5GHz Wi-Fi band or a wired Ethernet connection. Bluetooth is not suitable for hi-res audio since it compresses the signal.
- Factory reset: Press and hold the CONNECT button and the Mute button together for about 5 seconds until the LED flashes a reset pattern. The speaker will restart in factory default mode, ready for a fresh setup.
