How to Set Up Your Emerson Sensi Touch 2 Thermostat

What You'll Need

  • Emerson Sensi Touch 2 thermostat
  • Screwdriver
  • Smartphone with Sensi app
  • 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
  • C-wire connection (required for this model)

Important: C-Wire Required

The Sensi Touch 2 requires a C-wire (common wire) for power. If your current thermostat doesn't have a C-wire connected, you may need to run a new wire or install an add-a-wire kit before proceeding.

Step 1: Download the App First

Download the Sensi app from the App Store or Google Play. Create an account with a valid email address. This account will be linked to your thermostat.

Step 2: Document Existing Wiring

Before removing your old thermostat, take photos of the current wiring connections. This is helpful for reference and troubleshooting if needed.

Step 3: Turn Off Power

Turn off power to your HVAC system at the circuit breaker. Wait 30 seconds to ensure complete shutdown.

Step 4: Remove Old Thermostat

Remove your existing thermostat from the wall. Label each wire with the terminal letter it was connected to before disconnecting.

Step 5: Install Sensi Mounting Plate

Mount the Sensi backplate to the wall using the included screws. If the screw holes don't align with your old mounting, use the included drywall anchors.

Step 6: Connect Wiring

Connect each labeled wire to the matching terminal on the Sensi backplate. Push the thermostat onto the backplate until it clicks into place. Restore power at the breaker.

Step 7: Connect to Wi-Fi

A QR code will appear on the Sensi screen. Scan it with the Sensi app. Enable Bluetooth on your phone - the app uses it to complete the Wi-Fi connection. Select your 2.4GHz network and enter the password.

Step 8: Complete Setup

Follow the app prompts to configure your HVAC system type and preferences. Test heating and cooling to verify proper operation.

Troubleshooting

  • Blank screen: Verify C-wire is connected; check 20-30VAC between R and C terminals
