What You Will Need

  • Eve Energy Outlet (smart plug)
  • iPhone or iPad with the Eve app installed
  • Apple Home hub (Apple TV, HomePod, or iPad) for remote control and automations
  • Available wall outlet
  • A device to control (lamp, fan, coffee maker, etc.)

Step 1: Plug In the Eve Energy Outlet

Insert the Eve Energy Outlet into any standard wall outlet. The smart plug sits flush and is designed to occupy only one outlet space, leaving the second outlet available for other use. Once plugged in, the Eve Energy is powered and ready for setup. There is no separate power button — the device is active as soon as it is connected to the outlet.

Step 2: Add the Device to HomeKit

  1. Open the Eve app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap Add Accessory.
  3. Scan the HomeKit setup code printed on the side of the Eve Energy or on the included card.
  4. The app will connect to the plug via Bluetooth or Thread if a Thread border router is available.
  5. Assign the plug to a room, such as "Living Room" or "Bedroom."
  6. Give it a descriptive name based on what it controls, such as "Desk Lamp" or "Coffee Maker."

Naming the plug after the connected device makes voice commands intuitive. You can say "Hey Siri, turn on the Desk Lamp" or "Hey Siri, turn off the Coffee Maker."

Step 3: Connect Your Device

Plug your appliance or device into the Eve Energy Outlet. The smart plug works best with devices that have a physical power switch that stays in the ON position, such as:

  • Table and floor lamps
  • Fans and space heaters (check wattage limits)
  • Coffee makers and electric kettles
  • Holiday lights and decorative lighting
  • Chargers and small electronics

Make sure the connected device does not exceed the maximum wattage rating of the Eve Energy, which is listed on the device itself.

Step 4: Control the Plug

You can control the Eve Energy Outlet in several ways:

  • Eve app — tap the device to toggle it on or off
  • Apple Home app — tap the device tile on the Home screen
  • Siri — use voice commands like "Hey Siri, turn off the Desk Lamp"
  • Physical button — press the button on the Eve Energy itself to toggle power

Step 5: Monitor Energy Consumption

One of the standout features of the Eve Energy is built-in energy monitoring. In the Eve app, tap on the device to view:

  • Current power draw in watts
  • Total energy consumed in kilowatt-hours
  • Estimated cost based on your electricity rate
  • Voltage reading

To configure cost estimates, enter your electricity rate (cost per kWh) in the Eve app settings. This feature is helpful for identifying energy-hungry devices and calculating real usage costs.

Step 6: Create Schedules and Automations

Use the Eve app to set up schedules that automatically turn the plug on and off at specific times. For example:

  1. Select the Eve Energy in the app.
  2. Tap Add Schedule.
  3. Set the on time and off time.
  4. Choose which days the schedule is active.

You can also create automations in the Home app that trigger based on events like arriving home, leaving home, or time of day. Schedules created in the Eve app run locally on the device, ensuring they work even without internet.

Tips for Best Performance

  • The Eve Energy supports Thread networking for faster, more reliable communication when a Thread border router like a HomePod Mini or Apple TV 4K is present.
  • Do not use the Eve Energy with devices that have motors requiring high startup current, such as air conditioners or refrigerators, unless they are within the rated capacity.
  • Use the energy monitoring data to find devices that draw power even when "off" (phantom power) and schedule the plug to cut power completely during unused hours.
  • Keep the Eve app updated to receive firmware updates that improve performance and add new features.
